I know those companies no longer exist. I also have no evidence one way or another that Crete is worse off than most companies . Was trying to make a point, but sometimes the sarcasm does not quite work.
I will have just under 3500 miles in 10 days after I deliver this load, with a few 500-800 mile loads included. Some people, might scoff at that , as it seems like only 3800 mile weeks & back to back 1500 mile runs are what they expect , but my figures do me just fine. These are just my miles. I am not suggesting they are typical for everybody or for every week -
As for me, it's SOSDD. I'm on a swing...one decent month, one crappy month, one decent month....you get the picture. I have been either too bummed out, or too busy to get on and catch up. In fact I've been so down until this last week, I couldn't come up with one single sarcastic/humorous comment about anybody...And that just aint right! Well except when I got called in for my bi-annual 'random wizz test'. I was sent to Ottawa, when I walked in...they knew my face there too...(what, is my face pasted on all the terminal walls with a big 'wanted - dead or alive' on it or something?) Anyway, I told them I was sent in by safety to pee on them... And they said, don't pee 'on' us... and my reply in a typical 'snackbar' style... -oh that's right, ya'll aren't dispatchers or planners, my mistake.- Only to be greeted with a blank stare... Some places my sarcastic humor is just totally wasted. I need to get a drum 'rim shot' sound effect on my Blackberry, so at least they know when I'm kidding.
I did see the newest of the new Cornbinders in Columbus... The one's with the funky little grill on the passenger side where the side box door would be. Some kind of new battery powered A/C and another battery box under the bunk on the passenger side. The mechanic I talked to (I won't say where, I don't want my informants to get in trouble) said he doubts it's any better than the Freightliner's system they tried. But only time will tell. The only thing I thought was screwed up, it's got a fuel fired heater, but it's mounted outside, under the bunk frame, and heats the water lines that run up inside the bunk. Plus, the little flex pipe exhaust, is strung between the sleeper frame rails - which are like 18-24" apart - with no support in between. The one I saw was just sorta' dangling there flapping in the breeze... like that's gona last with the rough ace roads we travel.
Oh well, not my problem. Another bright idea brought to you by fine folks in High Command.
Catch ya' all later, I've got a big 279mi 2 day run to WV from the Columbus yard...Geez, I might have to get there, and back all the way back, and drive there again, just to make sure I did it right the 1st time.
OH--before I go...the APU, manages to keep you cool(er)(at least cooler than the opti-idle system) but when the temps are in the low 100's, the a/c compressor never cycles off like it's suppose to...at least mine didn't. In TX the other day, it was on almost 8 hrs without ever reaching high enough pressure to shut off. Once the temps drop, you can feel it cycle again. You can feel it 'lug' the engine for a second when it cycles on...8 hours, never lugged once - 2 days in a row. And when it's on all the time, it sucks some fuel. Again, not my problem as long as it cools. Cya -
Spoken like a true newbie. I believe I have a right to ##### when Crete doesn't have the freight to keep the drivers it already has happy much less any new hires. -
If you dont like your job then quit!!!!! Better than having no job at all.
