    Hey there,
as I'm familiar with the tunnel categories and the related regulations in Europe, I wonder if there is anything similar in the USA. Are there different types of tunnels, or tunnels that have different restrictions than others in the United States?
    Thanks!

    Two words.

    "How high"

and color signs with symbols banning HM in many.

Other than that enjoy your visit here in America. We are not as fancy as Europe.

Truckers atlas has a section for every state that has most of the information, get the plastic one, it can last a few years and spilling the coffee on it does not destroy it.

Thanks for a tip! I've already got one, and the list of low clearance passages only specifies the height, and nothing else. So I was just wondering if the height is really the only thing you have to care about.

The only thing banned in tunnels is hazmat. Everything else is fair game especially seeing who has the coolest air horn and the loudest jakes

However the old Boone Tunnel is verboten, closed. Ran it back in 98. Thats going to be removed and the land returned to original as possible 1700's pass where Boone led about 300,000 Marylanders and others to Kentucky and Tennessee which in those days were completely outside of any government or national control. Quite a draw back then.
