I’m such a chump

im a single mom. My kids’ dad is dead. I don’t get any child support or even ssi. Im poor as hell. I was traveling in the center lane a J.B. Hunt truck tried to merge from the left into my lane. His lug nut spikes tore up my door.

We were on a stretch of road in Brooklyn NY where the interstate is enclosed in walls. I pulled in from of his truck against the barrier separating eb/wb traffic. I couldn’t open my door because of the barrier wall. I didn’t even think to snap a photo. He said let’s pull over to the exit which was .25 miles ahead within eyesight. I said fine. I got to the exit and waited until I saw him in the rear view and I turned left. He turned right.

I called J.B. hunt I called the cops. They sent out an adjuster. I let them low ball me for 1600$ which totaled out my car. They claim he’s denying it. I didn’t have bodily injury so I couldn’t claim that. I didn’t want him to get fired. And he can deny deny deny. #### thus whole ####ing system that protects these huge firms. I should have asked for way ####ing more.

Question: is that a textbook way to handle an accident or what? Leave the scene? The company probably just paid me out of pocket and didn’t even have to file an insurance report.

 

Yeah they paid 1000$ to total out my car. I talked him up from $100 in pain and suffering to $600. So all together I got $1600. I’m not saying spikes but many trucks in the city have longer than usual lug nuts. I think they are life savers to tell the truth. Yeah and I didn’t get hurt and the driver didn’t lose his job. Because he and I are the little guys. I just wished I would have asked for more.

But he was skilled besides not double checking his mirror before the lane change as soon as felt my car he slowed down and gently eased over to the barrier wall. So I appreciate him for saving my life. He could have flipped out and done something crazy.

 

I probably owe him my life actually

 

Yeah you are right. I just hate feeling like I got played. But $1600 and I’m alive. But I had to total out my car. So now no car. $200 in scrap.
