Well, let's talk about business as sense.
I'll use some arbitrary numbers, you can plug your own in, it's the same principle.
if I make $100k net(before taxes, after expenses) and pay 20% to the government, that's $20,000. After 5 years that's $100,000.
if you buy a new truck and can deduct$25,000 a year (depreciation) , you will only pay taxes on $75000. (Lets say you and I have the same job and make the same money). At 20% tax rate you will pay $15,000/year. Over 5 years that's $75,000.
You can save $25000 more in taxes than I can.
BUT.......you have to spend $125,000 to do it.
So yes....... It is good business sense.........
For the banks, dealers and loan companies. LOL
So the guys with hoods "look cool, but have no business sense"
Well, I'll take that extra 100 grand every five years. Thank you very much.
And p!ease don't be offended if I use another source for my business advise.lol
Enjoy your day, be safe driver.
This is why old guys gotta die off....

I do preventive and predictive maintenance. I schedule maintenance at a time and place of my own choosing.
Hauling pigs there is no alternative.
Although any and every customer deserves the same reliability and service.
But if you think I spend $100,000 more on maintenance over a new truck you're mistaken.
If you are any kind of manager there is very few reasons to ever be on the side of the road. That's where you spend the money!
Spend more money on old truck repairs than a new truck costs????? Obviously you're not informed.Rideandrepair, rank and exhausted379 Thank this. -
Many guys with new trucks or newer trucks have much more down time and much, much more money, but that doesn't have anything to with it having a hood or not. The last I knew there was not hardly any difference in prices between a hood and a curb sniffer if speced the same, so no savings much at all and certainly not much difference in interest or tax advantages.
I am the type that keeps a truck forever and drive it to make my living, if I buy a new truck I have to drive them to make the truck a living, just not my thing, anyway I have both types, but the hood in the long run makes the most sense.money wise. Where I run, the fuel savings in the very best of the new trucks is negligible, in fact the very best I have heard bragged about has been 4 gallons for one trip, even if it was 10 gallons, I would still come out money ahead, and only have to work 1/2 as much.
All that said, what I see hurt the guys that get hurt buying throw away trucks, is if in 6 months, a year, or even two or three years, when something happens and they have to quit driving, even if for a few months, they have a hard time getting what they owe on the truck, if they can at all. Now we are talking using savings to make 6 more months payments while you are trying to sell it, with no way of knowing if that is going to happen or not, or use savings to pay the 20 or 30 thousand off that is left on the note when you sell it at the going rate.
There is more than one business plan, and no one plan will work for everybody.Rideandrepair and rank Thank this. -

Hood / Aero / Old / New ...... who cares? If you’re not responsible for it why does it matter what someone else drives? Someone wants a hood? Good for them, you can drive your Volvo and not worry about the other guy’s fuel cost. I want a new truck because I decided I don’t want to sit in an old truck all day? How does that affect your bank account?
Everyone has an opinion, but that doesn’t make any of us wrong that are doing things differently than you.
I’m single, the only debt I have is the little I borrowed to buy this truck, and I’ve put together a newer truck that I’m proud to drive. And nobody will convince me that I’m dumb for having a new truck or that I’d be happier in an old one.Rideandrepair, FlaSwampRat, Cat sdp and 4 others Thank this. -
