What truck batteries do you use and how long do they last?

It turns out the AGM batteries people are talking about are also “dual purpose,” and probably better than standard dual batteries, at least with the brand Alliance Truck Parts. They have a catalog where they show 4 different batteries: starting, dual purpose, AGM, and AGM with fahrenheit technology.

I just got myself another set of batteries. I guess it was time for some new batteries after having had my old batteries for 2.5 years.

One of my batteries started expelling gases and giving the usual rotten eggs smell. It’s interesting how the gases come out of a small vent on the battery. I always thought they came out of a crack on the battery. Next time I’ll know more specifically what to look for when diagnosing bad batteries:
    • Smell through the vent
    • Possible hissing sound
    • Swelling of the battery
    • Hot battery compared to the other.

    You are overcharging your batteries.

I recommend for all to get a maxwell starter module and a good set of batteries, I am changing less batteries now than ever before.

I just bought 3 Deka from local Peterbilt $85 each. Core charge nowadays has gotten high. $35 each.Learned that after dropping a bunch of batteries at the scrap yard for $10 each.Luckily they sold me 3 back!!! Almost cost me an extra $75, not thinking. Last set of Deka from NAPA-lasted almost 5 yrs.

This is true. Those three are contracted to manufacture batteries for other companies with their brand name attached. However for a good price
and convienent locations try NAPA brand. Not sure who makes them but I get 3+ years out of them.

one thing to consider about batteries for trucks is deep cycle batteries are made to be drained down lower but don't have the cranking amps for starting a big tuck plus there are more plates inside thus making them thinner and more susceptible to vibration damage where as high cca batteries have thicker plates and can take more abuse

    Actually it is backwards

Deep cycle batteries have thicker plates and separators than starting batteries and are tougher.

    Ok Guy's
Let's go and get our truck batteries load tested for free at your local auto parts. I think it's called preventive maintenance..
