So, firstly thanks to everyone here who answered my questions and gave me advice on here over the last few months. I graduated CDL school the final week of August, had to wait 2 weeks for my hazmat background check to clear, and was hired on with Salt Lake Trucking Group last Friday (New hire paperwork and take my drug test). Drug test came back and I got a text on Sunday to be there at 3 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 17. All of the freight is dedicated routes and drop and hook freight in the road dept. I will be switching to FedEx side as soon as possible (already eligible but I would have had to wait a couple weeks to start and I wanted to start now).
I’m on a SLC>Sacramento>Kansas City, KA>SLC route right now and we run that twice in a week. Currently headed back to SLC with a load, will be picking up new load and heading back to Sacramento sometime early in the AM. We’re driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia running under GTB transportation (Road Division).

    -Endorsements: Hazmat and Doubles/Triples
-Starting pay: .36 cpm with .6 cents of that being bonuses. Fuel, mileage, safety bonuses. (Only fuel at Pilot/Flying J).
-While I am with my trainer we are basically running teams, I do not make some ######## weekly pay or have to let my trainer get paid on my miles; I am paid my starting pay from day 1 on all miles I drive. (I believe they calculate all miles driven on run and split it in half).
-My trainer is a cool dude and is helpful as I could hope for.

    First trip checklist:
-Haven’t showered since Tuesday = Check
    -ELD broke once = Check
-Headlight fuse blew in Wyoming last night = Check
-A spider crawled onto my arm at one point while driving through a construction zone = Check
-Spilled a little pee on the floor of the sleeper while half asleep standing up peeing in a bottle = Check ( I bought a can of the high dollar pet waste cleaner and cleaned the hell out of it).

Lmao I have enough foresight to keep my pee bottle on the floor next to my head and my drinking bottle on top of the fridge at my feet. I could def see this happening though

On the floor next to the bunk lol, my trainer and I both use the bottom bunk to sleep. He has a bedroll and I have a sleeping bag; One sleeps and one drives, the truck is always moving.

No daily shower with two people in truck means stinky truck. Fix that fast.

Yeah, that’s happening tonight when we get into the terminal. I’m going to start using my 30 minute break for showers during the day. I mean I’m all for running balls to the wall, but I agree. It isn’t bad yet, really. I can smell my feet when I take my boots off but I clean my ### with baby wipes after I take a #### and I use deodorant. I’ve smelled far worse in locker rooms and in the military.

Even teams run out of hours unless you are stuck at shipper/receivers.

Honestly if you stop for fuel or your trainee does in the middle of the day or night and fuels, or takes a 30 you both should shower at the same time. Just make a deal to wake the other driver up when it's shower time. And have a shower bag ready for go time.
