Hi all, this is my first time posting. I've thought about getting into driving for a while and I'm starting to get things lined up for it.

I may be worrying too much about this, but I I couldn't find an answer online and I wouldn't mind a second opinion. A few days ago I got a ticket for speeding, 13 over. There's not much I can say: it was late, I had been driving for a few days and I didn't see the sign where the speed dropped 15mph entering a small rural town.

I have not yet gone to driving school. Defensive driving is an option, but I assume that the ticket will still show for a commercial license. Is this worth my calling a local lawyer to try to have it reduced or removed? I do have one speeding ticket and a fender bender within the last two years. Will having a class on the record affect licensing or affect which carriers are interested?

I would fight it to see if they will drop it to a non moving violation and just pay a fine. It won't kill you trying to get a job even if it sticks tho.carry on with the plan to go drive just like you already were. You are okay.

    Yep, fight it.
15 over is a job killer, but 13 over and you're hirable with some companies.

You're ok since its 13 over...when I began, I had one for 17 over, and Western Express took me. Speeding will diminish your options for jobs so slow down!!!! Lol

Thanks all. I'll call a lawyer in that county on Monday and see what they think can be done.

Ticketed as a passenger car driver, go to school to remove the points. Once you get a CDL that option goes away regardless of what you are driving.

That's the question, will the offense stay off my record after I get a CDL. The course will stay on my record no matter what, and I may need to explain it when applying.

Chinatown, Brian- I completely agree about speeding. I think that this was more about concentration. It was late and I missed a fifteen mph drop in the speed limit--my fault of course, and an excellent learning opportunity.

Unless something has changed, it will stay on your record.

If he takes the class. It won't show up. But can only be done if he's had no priors.

His problem though. He's already got a prior. So he's already screwed.

Depending on what state your in. ALWAYS hire a lawyer to plea it down. You still pay the fine but get a reduced charge. Some states are a flat out no go though. Wyoming and NM are 2 of them. But that's on the trucker side of things. No idea on cars.

CDL or not. ALWAYS protect your license.
