I’m not sure I agree with your assessment of the transition from FDR to Truman. Truman was his own man with his own ideas. The war was under control and with Overlord successful and the Asian theater being handled the brass from the military handled things pretty well. FDR made the depression FAR worse but the fact as I pointed out that we were the only ones producing anything eliminated unemployment concerns.
I’m not saying it was completely easy but it was a decent time and compared to the previous and next 10 years it was a good time.Zeviander, Westbound23, Feedman and 18 others Thank this. -

On the topic of forklifts and trailer damage....
I'm super, super, super paranoid about dinging up anybody's trailer. Doesn't matter if it's owned by an O/O who obviously doesn't give a @$@% about his ratty ### equipment, a big company trailer, or anything else. One time I bumped someone's rail a little hard and first words out of my mouth were "I'm super sorry about that".
On the flip side, what blows my mind is how absolutely careless some of the contractors I deliver to are about how they unload stuff. Last week had a guy unloading the pickup trailer... Big old loader with huge forks. He slammed his forks down on the trailer and pushed it down so hard towards the rear end, the back end of the pickup was lifted way up, and you could see the trailer flexing.
"JESUS CHRIST MAN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
Our flatbed has a nice dent in the aluminum deck from another operator just slamming the bucket of an excavator down on top of it (had portable forks on his bucket to unload me with). Just got a blank look when I said something about it to him. Took pictures etc. etc....
The typical response from home base about damage to our trailers by these yay-hoos is "It happens, not much we can do about it...."
