There’s overwhelming evidence that first Hoovers then FDR’s policies absolutely made it worse. You can certainly find people that will praise him but they’re far outnumbered by those who don’t and the facts are against him.

We went on a tour of FDR‘s house, and his wife’s property nearby. The people that work there praise the hell out of them, but it’s like laughable how obvious the flaws in those plans were. And what they lead to. That said, the depression was not national or regional but global. Remember it brought to power some of the most despicable people in history. FDR while not perfect did what Keynes suggested in regard to government spending. There were few alternatives, lots of people suffered. It was a bad time for the world, then it got worse.
