naturally that is gross... Being in a new tax bracket the feds and in most cases state and city/county taxes will bring that to just over $1400 take home... And I have no insurance since the Walmart insurance sucks just like everybody else's insurance... So if you have insurance you need to calculate that subtraction... So whatever insurance you have now subtract that from $1400.... Now if your wondering what if it's cheaper than what I have now? It's not. Due to Obama Care all insurance costs are based on income. So as a true example... ( Will round for easier math. You may do your exact calculation if you wish)... Again for simplicity I will just name they plans a, b, and c.... As a true example (only in my case as each driver will differ in regards to number of people he/she wants covered... My example is myself, wife, 1 child). Plan A (high) is $800/mth with a deductible of $8400. Plan B (middle) is $500/mth with $12000 deductible. Plan C (low) is $300/mth with $14400 deductible... So as you will quickly tell and by doing the same math with your own plan, it does not matter what plan you choose, you will pay $18000 at the end of the year... Therefore being that my family and I are young and healthy we chose to not go with insurance since we only see the doctor one every 3 years anyway on average.... And no there is no Obama Care penalty because $18k is more than 8% of your income and therefore can check the box on your tax form claiming insurance is not affordable. (Note: we looked at the marketplace too, we had roughly 79 plans to choose from but all totaled $18k in any 12 month period, but the monthly plan cost was the only difference... Some where as low as $125/mth but with a $16800 deductible...)

Oh and to conclude that thought for insurance I did various plan options with the kid and myself. My wife and myself. And just me... Conclusions:
By myself: $9kyr
Kid and me/wife and me (turned out to be the same): $13k/yr
I only see this being beneficial if more than 2 kids or if you or someone in family (hopefully not) have health issues..
Added: my wife's family is mostly nurses and doctors and live in a variety of states. We were shocked at this change in insurance and therefore asked them on input. Naturally our main concern was our child (7 years old). All of them said that their state has Medicaid that will cover any child in an emergency for 100% of the cost, but that each state calls it something else... At that time we lived in FL (untill a few months ago), they call it healthy kids. Now we live near my DC in OH, they call it CHIP or something like that... Too compare so you can further come to conclusion (only if the insurance talk has you trying to do math)... I have only been with Walmart for 5 months... Give or take. So my last company here were their insurance plans (again rounding)...
Plan A (family of 3): $800/mth w/ $5400 deductible.
Plan B: $500/mth w/ $9k deductible
Plan C: $300/mth w/ 11,400 deductible
Either plan totals $15k/year
I mention this to mention... Lol sorry that sounds cheesy.
That last company I made $53k/yr gross... (not salaried, like most trucking company it was per mile, that was just the total I made on avg and worked for them for 4 years.)
With Walmart I've already calculated I will make $85kyr gross.
So to conclude.. 53k/year means you will have to pay $15k/year in insurance for a family of 3.
85k/yr you have to pay $18k/year.. so it appears and is a safe deduction you pay an additional $1k/yr for every additional $10k you make...
Note: I did various calculation with my old company at the time too.
Myself: 8k/yr
Myself and either kid or wife: 13k/year
Again this is just food for thought... -

If the new hire class is large enough, which it will be (60ish) they split up the group... Half will do all 3 skill test in the AM while the other half is upstairs learning company policy... Standard stuff, like sexual harassment, driver fatigue, pro tread and Smith system tutorial videos, etc.. then have lunch and classes swap... Those who were in class are now doing the skills tests... It's nothing to worry about and they do not scrutinize you under a microscope... I had 64 in my onboarding and 53 were hired, 2 were sent home due to background checks, rest failed some sort it skill test multiple times.... As a fact since I happen to be standing next to the office when the trainers and bosses were inputting results, on day 1 every driver except 8 hit a trailer while backing up.... So 56 drivers who met their accident free requirements hit a trailer while backing up in a standard alley dock setup... And 53 were hired by the end of the 4 day onboarding event...
Added: oh and the pretrip they dubbed "the Walmart way" is just a standard DOT pretrip with a few added adjustments, so nothing major.Exit310 and mushroom1464 Thank this. -
Most of all... The Walmart chant/song... You will question life after hearing it and probably seek therapy after hearing it every day.... It's like a trick, and I theorize that Walmart paid psychologists and a group of singers to come up with a song that will bring in positive energy quickly and yet make you question life at the same time... Its very disturbing and joyful all in one... As of day 1 I decided to drink bottled water only in fear of getting whatever is in their local tap water... LOL. overall its relaxing and you generally meet a good group of drivers.
