Series 60 was designed by Detroit Diesel . In 1988, Roger Penske invested in Detroit Diesel and that investment, along with the development of the Series 60 engine, are what helped the company rebound in the 1990's.
DD15 was designed by Daimler, Mitsubishi and Detroit Diesel engineers. Daimler needed an engine that would be suitable for European and Asian cabovers and American trucks. German engineers designed more than 80% of DD platform engine...

I have one at 846,000..Runs like a champ..Its important to remember a couple things with a DD15..#1..At the 600,000 mark those things need 2 new gaskets on the Pick up tubes in the oil pan..They crack at about 600,000 causing the engine to suck air, and spin a bearing causing sudden death..#2 Rods and Mains should be changed at about 700,000..Mine came out and looked great, it was a relief, however i change my oil waaaaay sooner than Freighliner recomends, as well as fuel, and Engine air filters..Im confident ill get 1.2 Mill on this #####...Also dont fear the DPF filters..These are easily cleaned with water..I soak them in BOILING water ,and agitate them up and down, and back and forth and the sludge flows out..Then i powerwash them with gentle pressure, until water flows cleaner..You must wash them so the soot flows out the way it came in..Then i reboil water and soak them again for about an hour, and repeat process..Then i powerwash them again this time from both directions..Then you can use light air pressure to help clean, and dry them..After this leave them out in the sun to dry, and replace them the next day..You need a new Band and gasket set to put them back in..Dont buy from Freightliner the want like 450.00, i got mine from ebay for 249.00..Truck runs like a champ now, and it did'nt really cost squat..Hope this helps somebody..

No i got it with 450,000..I bought a used Prime truck from the Dealership..I choose a Prime truck because i used to work there, and they require drivers to get required maintainence done on time..Many of the Big outfits like Walmart trucks do not..Ive seen them getting PM's at 90,000..Thats insaine to me, but alot of these big outfits plan on selling between 350, and 400 so they just dont care..
