Should of asked for the dedicated account. I'm on the crete side but talked with a Shaffer driver on the Mars dedicated. 2800 miles each week all drop and hooks with the only live load being if you there is no back haul and you have to do a otr load back.

I never knew about that acct , but it probably wouldn’t have been available to me anyway, I live in FL. I did pu at a Mars facility in Waco, TX a few times & take those lds to Joliet, IL . Perhaps these stops were on this acct you’re speaking about ?

Don't know much about it but he seems to pass through the Wilmer terminal regularly. Truck was in shop so just making idle ####-chat with the other drivers. Where I live the only Shaffer account that appears on the job page is for the Chocolate account out of San Antonio, that is available if for me if I wish to make a switch to Shaffer. From what other drivers have told me is if you can get on a dedicated account, shaffer side then it's real good since most if not all the accounts are drop n hooks at high pay so you get that constant stream of high miles and low wait times.

Only been here a month now so cant say much but making more than when I pulled tanker for Schneider.

Edit* like how it censored <c>hit chat lol

Hey newbietrucker91 I think you and I drove tankers @ Schneider at the same time in early 2018. I remember following you on this site when I started out to see how they treated you. Obviously not that great cause you left the dark side and came to CCC. Boy I hated being a tanker yanker; every load was live and every unload was live and I never made over 1600 miles in a week in 6 months.

I drive for Shaffer out of Florida and while I do not have a dedicated route, I run Hershey loads over 60% of the time. A good amount of drop and hooks but certainly not over 70%. Most Hershey's are pre-loads and drops are 50% live unload. Not that great but the runs are fast paced 500-600 1 day delivery and 1300-1700 3 or 4 day delivery. I run out west quite a bit. I'm real happy with both my pay and my monthly miles since I got here 10 months ago. I was offered Crete starting out but opted for Shaffer cause I thought the extra $$ would be a better deal. Detention happens occasionally but it's not a deal killer.

I'm still trying to figure out crete dedicated offers. For instance there are 2 dedicated Texas offers but they don't list for what company. One starts at .53 while the other starts at .46. Then they have wal-mart dedicated if I relocate to the Dallas area what starts at .62. Edit - .52 - .62 sliding pay scale.

What I like about crete is you can take your truck home for as long as you like without swapping truck. Schneider out of Houston would not allow more than 3 days of home time while the other bulk terminals allowed all 6 days at once. I have a 7 day cruise coming up in a few months so plan on staying 8 weeks out then getting a run to Orlando if they dont have anything down to Miami and catching a uber to the airport for the rest of the way. Can park that truck at the truck stop for 9 days and come back and back to work.

    Hi,
I'm considering switching to Shaffer from CFI. I saw there were a couple current drivers in this thread. What are your experiences so far?

Been with Shaffer for a year now. Not all great but much more good then bad or lousy. Shaffer miles, if you want to run hard are there. Asset Managers mostly are reasonable to deal with, benefits are above average, vehicles are all in well above average shape and get fixed immediately if needed. Not going to go into specifics on this forum, but I will gross 67k my first year. Not too shabby and you don’t have to beat the bushes to get loads.

Saw in your other thread you are only getting .35cpm. Shaffer starting pay is .53cpm.

Crete/shaffer does not lease trucks like other companies but will sell you them straight out. They can even help with the finance side of things but the longer you are with the company the bigger the deal.

On the van side I'm at .50 and avg 2600 miles. Just did 3200 miles last week thanks to a 2600 mile run from Cali to Ohio. Drop and hook both ends. Most of my dry runs are around 300 - 700 miles with the other quarter being 800+. Just did 5 short hauls in a row around 300-400 mile each and am now on a 1200 mile run. Reefer from what the other drivers tell me is mostly all 800+ runs but what gets you is the long load and unload times. However they do still have a good amount of drop and hooks.

The mars dedicated for the reefer side is 90% drops but I never see openings on it in my area. Mostly just Chocolate dedicated but have yet to meet a driver on that account.

Also all owner ops have 4 digit trucks so if you happen to run into a crete/shaffer driver with a 4 digit truck, then they bought one from them and know what's up.

    D LOOK Thanks this.
