May I step in here and ask....
Have the possibility of hauling grain for a large farm.
Hopper bottoms.
Could also do a little reefer, dry van, or flat bed if I want. Even livestock.
Mostly regional. Some further. No California. (I kind of take it no New England either)
I've worked pneumatic tanker out of mills. Seen these guys at those places. Got an idea.
Get home easily every other day. Some longer. Sometimes if not much going on. Hauling locally. Winter is not a problem keeping me busy and making money.
Said they would rather pay by the hour. This because of wait times. It more fair to the driver.
Pay is $20 an hour. Said guys are easily making $1,500 a week on 5 days. Take 2 off.
This is South Dakota. My bills aren't high. But do have them. $1000 a week does me very good.
Right now am doing cement powder in pneumatic tanker. Like it alot. With an O/O. But fearing income for winter. Not good. This pays about $1000 a week during summer. That's going all out all week. But home almost daily.Last edited: Oct 11, 2019

Local hoppers is almost always percentage pay. Typically 25%to 26% of the load before deductions. No insurance. Thats the going rate here in arkansas anyways. Ran into a guy awhile back from iowa with a similar gig with a smaller farm operation like u describe. He said he clears 1500 a wk, hourly pay with benefits, home wkends.

They are willing to pay either way. But prefer hourly. Expressed why.
Didn't ask about benefits.
In general. Jobs are lousy in this state. Lousy pay. In comparison. This one doesn't sound bad at all. Pretty good actually. And I get home alot. At least a couple days a week. If not more. -
Oh Muddy Dog... I like Arkansas alot. Have talked to women there who are very real. Talk from deep down inside. Unpretentious. No falsehood about them. I swear, if I lived there, I'd be married.
Muddydog79 Thanks this. -

Go with your gut, most the time its right. Just dont burn any bridges in case it doesnt pan out on their side. Sounds like with a variety of trailers, they will keep you busy, but money isnt everything. If you make good money and the people treat you like crap, it isnt worth it imo.
WesternPlains Thanks this.
