A couple months ago, we were informed by our employer that one of the largest customers they have is requiring all employees of our company that deliver to the customer must submit to background and credit check.
The reason giving was the customer wants to 'know who is on their property'.
I dont have a problem with the background portion, heck I have a CDL w/haz., a PEC card, etc.
My concern is the credit check, now my credit is excellent, I dont want inquireis on my credit report.
We employee's were told if we did not comply, we would be terminated.
How would you all here handle this situation?
I did, against my better judgement, comply. But still leaves a bitter feeling.

Companies are getting desperate. I'm sure the credit check is for any damage. If you want to stay in this industry, you have to comply. I'm the defiant type, and would tell them to pound sand,,but if I had little ones and a roof to pay for, guess what, I'd probably do it too. Just like when drug testing came about. Comply, or you're out the door.

An employer credit check reveals a modified version of your credit history. It is a soft inquiry and as such will show on a normal credit report but does not affect your credit like a hard inquiry will. You, lenders and potential lenders can see a soft inquiry, but potential employers cannot see them if they run a credit check.

Actually they are checking for late payments and debt problems to evaluate the financial risk that an employee or potential employee poses or may pose.

I could see an employee, but I think this person can't even deliver something. That's going too far, but again, what choice do they have?

I couldn't believe the stealing going on in Oil Field.
    I'd say it's a good idea.

this is true, they are checking to see if that particular person would have a reason or be more apt to steal items.

i been thru credit checks myself, no big deal.

Why Are Credit Checks Done for Employment?

I would have to go with Semi retired on this one. I have never had nor heard of a job that I HAD to have though.
Talking to my SIL a few days ago, since our state legalized recreational marijuana, one of the big mines, which is a major employer here with good paying jobs, now drug tests everybody every 30 days, instead of the old random policy.

I'd tell them to piss off.

Probably want to see who's in debt up to their eyeballs so they know who's desperate enough to put up with their crap.
