The trucker's obsession with mirrors

Blind spots, trucks have them. One minute you might see a Kia coming up on your right, next he’s gone.

why, because he’s riding next to your right steer tire. I don’t have hood mirrors. I’d never know he was there if I didn’t scan my mirrors.

As ttr says. “Stick to flipping burgers”

 

If a guy thinks he doesn't need to look in his mirrors much, just take one off and drive a few miles, it will not take many. lol

 

I went through this with my FiL last year. He's a few years older than you but I see the progression syncing up nicely.

"I don't use mirrors!"

"I was just distracted!"

Pretty soon there's a failure to even see red lights, and more 4 way stop accidents in a month than there had been in the previous three decades, along with getting lost driving three blocks to the grocery.

Might as well save everyone some trouble and just hand over the license, Pops.

went thru a yellow light in city driving (was past point of no return)

no vehicles on either side of me

was watching to make sure no one came thru the intersection

checked mirrors and some idiot had caught up to me and ran the light and was directly beside the trailer on my left (three lanes in each direction, I was in right lane)

the unexpected and unforeseen is why you check the mirrors

when you check the mirrors and no hazards are present, it is proof of nothing

the fact that you check mirrors and nothing usually happens is irrelevant. when something does happen, you had better see it
