Here is my story. My dad was an OTR driver for almost 40 years. He drove for Armour Truck Lines in Omaha and KC for 18 then NW out of Denver for 15 then some local stuff. He was gone all the time and I never wanted to be a trucker. I started welding plastic in '85, started my own business in'90 and been at it ever since. Dad died in 2009 and 3 years ago I got my CDL. Just been doing some local and OTR part time stuff for a few years. Turned 60 in June and got a wild hair up my ### and bought a truck. A '94 Limited Edition KW 900L with 423K mi. Nice truck, I'm stoked! and scared ####less now that my authority was finally approved 3 days ago. My sister asked if I lost my friggen mind when I turned 60? I'm starting to think she may be right! I went ahead and bought the truck knowing that I can always get my money back out of it if things go south! As a new O/O I have a million questions I should have asked before I bought a truck! Actually, I wish I hadn't been a bullheaded teenager and hung out more with the best trucker I ever knew, MY DAD! Anyway long story short, I am glad to be part of this group and I hope ya'll can be patient with all my questions! I will try to ask them in the right forum. Thank you, Panman49

Colonel Sanders was older than you when he got going.
Don't sweat it. You'll be fine. My landlord where I park my truck had a construction business he just shut down, he bought a truck and trailer. He's about your age also.

Banker, rachi and Coffey Thank this.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have ran my plastic company for almost 30 years now successfully and I'm sure I can do this. It's just stepping out of my comfort zone till I get used to all the do's and don'ts.

    Chinatown and Coffey Thank this.

    This is awesome.
To be honest.. you've already taught ME something.

I had no idea that you could weld plastic.
Melt it, sure... but weld? Clueless.

Dive in. It's in your blood.

    rachi Thanks this.

Thank you, Jammer. It is hot air welding. I used to make large dip tanks for plating shops. The plastic holds up better to their chemicals and acids than steel does!

www.OOIDA.com is a business website for the owner-operator.
Maybe get some questions answered on there.

So I'm curious. Where are you going from here? What are you going to haul? Where will you get your loads from? I only ask because I too am in my 60's and may go buy a rig.
In any case, I wish you all the best !

    jammer910Z and rachi Thank this.

You mentioned awhile back about hauling JetA on the fires.
