Btw, you'd be leaving a ton of money on the table working that schedule.

But, I do know we have one guy who quits every summer to be a white water rafting guide, then comes back for the winter. What ever floats your boat.

What are you, another hobbyist?? 5 on, 2 off? Temp service work? Guess you don't need the money, or benefits. Why not just even it out and work 6 on at least?

Question. Do you have fingerless driving gloves?

Im with a starter company. I can do that. I said the norm was 5-7 days off after a month out. 5-7. Not 7. 5-7.

Maybe I'm wrong. I won't argue. But for your sake, I'll stop with the "industry norm". I didn't mean to get anybody riled up with that comment.

on a side note, it's pretty sad that this industry has just accepted that not getting an average of 2 days off per week (48 hours, not 34), for every 5 days worked, is being "lazy" or "unacceptable because we don't work physically hard like they do in the oilfield".

Despite the fact that most jobs in America and indeed in other first world countries, for every 5 days worked get at least a full 48 hours off, most of the time more like 60 hours off.

It's always nice to think about improving working conditions, rather than just accepting the way things are.

I know I would be leaving a lot of money on the table. I have no family of my own. Life is about more than money.

and actually, your coworker sounds like he's got a good thing going on. That sounds really enjoyable actually.

Which maybe brings me to another question - If you're a hard worker, this company is ok with you working 9 months then taking 3 off? Like your coworker being a white water rafting guide during the summer?

well obviously the company won't hold a job for him, but I mean if he works hard and there's work to be had when he comes back after summer, the company is hiring him back on again. That's really great of the company actually and speaks volumes about them.

AN Webber has that policy... 2 days off for every 7 in the truck.

That's the risk he takes. We might be full up, no truck available. Might have to wait a week or two till one gets fixed or somebody quits. But he's a known factor, good driver, earned his spurs, they'll find something.

But, not getting his old one back, that's for sure. Gonna put up with cigarette smoke and or dog hair.

Don’t they detail those trucks before theyre assigned to a new driver? I won’t put up with that, I’ll make sure it’s clean before I put my #### in a truck

Wow, good luck to whoever gets assigned this Ghent guy, whichever company is lucky enough to get him.

They do. But cigarette smoke sticks to everything. You'll always know. They try to put nonsmokers in nonsmoking trucks, Not always possible.
