I passed my Class A! Just got my license today. I am a self taught country boy as it were, I didn't attend a 160 hour class. I passed on my first go around, did all the maneuvers without pullups. I had to test on some old nine speed I wasn't familiar with, and aside from trying to shift to hi-lo, I was able to recover easily from the missed shifts.
I have two offers, one is for Class B/A dump truck gig, and the other is for a waste transfer contractor driving a day cab. Both are in South Carolina where I am relocating.
Should I take one of these, or should I look into a larger carrier with training, such as TMC or Schneider? I am eventually wanting to deliver cryo or fuel, or be one of those calm and cool oversize drivers. Or LTL. I do want to do a stint over the road.
I have a recent misdemeanor, and Prime has rejected my application, which I am kinda disappointed about.
Passed my Class A!

I wouldn't mind OTR, but it sounds like Iike I can get my foot in the door without needing OTR experience with the dump truck company. I'd be driving class B trucks and towing pintle hitch equipment trailers, and filling in for the class A guys until I prove I won't blow up their trucks I imagine.
The other company is KRD, they also will hire with no experience with my clean driving record. I've heard a mixed bag of reviews on this company though.
I just don't want to invest a couple years or more into a company that some may think is not real truck driving. I've heard of people having issues having dump truck experience counted although I don't know why.Last edited: Oct 23, 2019
