    Who out here has ever disconnected and dropped there trailer on a 80 foot certified scale.
    We own the scale and forbid it due to damage that it could cause.
    Well here comes Mr Tanker today , and insisted he drop his trailer , he did it anyway , Im asking for some wisdom here , Does Cat let you drop your trailer? .
    It got kind of ugly in the end.

    The guy's doing it backwards. You get a tare for your truck then weight the whole thing. I imagine the forces involved in dropping and hooking aren't great for the load cells.

    I just had to do it for my company they need a weight for the tag I was empty though

    Thats what I told the guy as his attitude got worse , to blow hard status.
    I ask him if he ever dropped on a certified in his career , and just wanted to argue.
    Right weigh it empty and loaded or vice versa , don't make any sense.
    I want to be a yard dog not a junk yard dog , fella got my BP up.

    Weigh the combination, move off the scale, drop the trailer, weigh the bobtail, subtract to find the weight of the trailer.

    We had something similar where when I hauled live turkeys, they wanted the trailer weighed separately, luckily, cooler heads prevailed.

    Now, it can be done very carefully, but not worth the risk of damaging the scale, and we have a 120k platform scale. It still got screwed up from fools sliding tandems on the scale, but it was a matter of having it adjusted, not replacing parts to repair the damage.

    I did long time ago....when I was starting.
    I dropped the trailer once because I did not hook it properly. It fell on my truck's frame, while I was rolling onto the scale's platform.
    I hauled it like that for 25 miles and there was some traffic around me too. God only knows how it stayed on the 5th wheel... I guess He had mercy on me. This is one of the most shameful moments of my life. Ever since I always take my flash light and stick my head underneath the trailer to see the king pin is locked. You all do the same, please...because some of you I see don't do it. Doing it only by sound and feel is not good enough.

    We have to drop trailers on a scale almost every time we load at some shippers. We are dropping the trailers to be loaded and when loaded a different tractor will be leaving with it. The only way to get an accurate weight is to weigh the trailer empty/loaded by itself.

    Are you sure you can't streamline things by weighing in empty, dropping the trailer, then weighting bobtail and doing a quick subtraction? Then doing it in reverse to leave by weighing in bobtail, picking up, then weighing out full. It might save you some hooking time.
