What the heck is dock work? -
You gotta be willing to do the extras in this biz. Even gas hauling, you're dragging hoses around, sticking tanks, climbing up on top to open the hatch etc. Visualize this; you arrive at a shipper, check in, get a dock assignment, then find out your trailer is not clean enough to be loaded. So you must sweep it out in 100 degree weather, after just taking a shower 1 hour ago and cannot dump the debris in their can, but must take it with you. (yes, this does happen) . How about a beer live load, where YOU have to shrink wrap the pallets or risk having a mess at the other end. Would you lump twenty 40lb cases of meat from the tail to the nose to get legal after crossing a scale and were cited for being overweight?

Then I got to thinking,, You're in the Bronx! Probably don't get to see many different trucks around the city. Hey, How's Bronx treating you?? Haven't been out there for a while.
I was going to say, go hang out at a truckstop for a while.. You'll see all kinds of trucking companies going on there.. take your pick. But then again, there's no Large Commercial Truck Stops over your way .
How's about being a little more specific? What are you looking for? To do? besides not doing any dock work. Local ? Over the road?
Gas hauling is up my alley.. it pays well. Not sure how much experience is needed. You're third party gas haulers will put you on.
You find work out of your area , rather than other states, because it pays more where you're at.
You can probably get on with containers too for your experience. -
well yea i was looking in on mostly tanker jobs becuase garbage trucks usually dont hire anyone around here without experience on tri axle dump trucks. the bronx is tuff man, but right now im driving doubles overnight and working on the dock loading and unloading trailers then driving back. but yea i was hoping you guys might know of jobs involving tankers like hauling propane or whatever its hard to find jobs that pay atleast 50 k a year but i know there out i found one but boy do i tell you its not easy workin on dock then driving doubles with weary eyes in NY lol

I know it's not really fair, but I assume it's an insurance thing.
