    Hi all !

I have around 100K looking to start my transportation company in Toronto. Initial thoughts are to buy a van and start with regional deliveries, all while working as broker connecting o/o to load and such.

Where should I start from ?

Is starting with a van okay?

How much per mile can van bring in within Ontario?

Do I need to contact companies to see if they need van delivery!?

How hard would it be to find loads?

Thanks a lot for all your replies. it helps.

    Straight up suicide!

Regional around GTA with Van? Dude seriously, I hope you’re joking or trolling. Anyone that’s been in trucking for 5 minutes knows 3 things.

#1- Trucking Canada only is poverty/not worth it/over saturated (esp in the GTA).

#2- Regional Dry Van is the worst business in trucking, esp once Amazon enters the market.

#3- Any company that doesn’t have consistent lanes into the US, will be bankrupt and out of business in 3 years or less.

241 trucking companies have gone bankrupt in Canada, since Nov 2018.

Bad idea. You will throw that 100K away in transportation.

    Forget it.

So you have 100K. Keep saving as you are doing without being involved in trucking at all. Make that 100K 200K 300K, 400K and so on. If you are lucky and grind long enough you have a million. And retire.

You are doing something VERY RIGHT when you managed to save that 100K. Keep DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

LEAVE THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY ALONE and treat it as a pie in sky dream that will turn into a debt nightmare in a hurry. Erase all that cash in a hell of a hurry.

This industry is in for hard times going on god only knows how long. All we can do is cut losses and not be involved in it right now.

    Find an Asian "massage" parlour.

    Give the "attendant" your $100k.

You'll still get screwed, but at least you'll have a happy ending.

Read @haider99's posts, but make sure you don't have any sharp objects within reach... they may induce suicidal tendencies.

Everyone above is correct, you would be throwing your money away, 100% . The transportation industry in North America is a race to the bottom, anybody and everybody involved in it knows it.

Take your $100,000.00 and invest it in a new, foward-looking industry, not a dying, corrupt fossil. You will be glad you did...

Invest in a decent rental house instead of a truck

Take that $100k and invest in something thats growing in your area, like real estate, look up Biggerpockets on the internet, tons of info how to invest that $100k, you'll just blow it in transportation.

Thank you very much for replying. it means a lot ! going back to some of your points:

1- in a way most businesses are over saturated; doing something as right as possible might lead to get results? take coffee shop business for example, a friend of mine had insane idea of starting an independent coffee shop in Downtown Toronto. Now consider the fact that there are 100s of Timmis, Starbucks' and other establishment already present with a huge flow in downtown. Literally everyone that I know told him this would be a his end and waste of 200K. Long story short, he is doing well and working on his second branch in Markham all in less than two years.

What I'm trying to say is that every other business that you think of can be over saturated. Trucking in other hand is a need that is around as long as good are being made/imported/exported into Canada

2- I believe regional was wrong in what I meant. between Toronto and Montreal For Example. basically I thought of this based on observing load boards.

3- I understand that US is an important life line for Canada's trucking. What about Mexico?
