There's no such thing as average when it comes to maint. And repairs.

You could go 4 weeks without issues and spend the next 2 weeks in the shop. One repair after another

Man all you O/O up here with the life sucks keep your job stories..... Why dont you just park the truck and call a local company? Yes I know trucks break yes I know #### sucks sometimes. I owned a truck before I get all that. I'm trying to get some landstar flatbed conversations going here. Let me be stupid haven't you been for decades now???

Have you tried the Landstar forum?

Seriously though, when I wanted to buy a truck I didn’t need anyone else’s opinion. I went to the bank and jumped in feet first. If you know you want a truck you know you want a truck and you’ll do what it takes to get it and make it work.

Well? The point is if you want to be your own boss you’re going to do it regardless of what the internet says.

It's also okay to quietly ignore advice you can't use, rather than make a snarky reply to somebody who's just trying to be helpful.

Well, the title of your thread is Landstar Flatbed or FedEx Freight. You called yourself stupid and everyone agreed lol. Even deep down you know this is crazy. Everyone answered the initial question of your thread. I think you have made up your mind, but you want validation from the veterans of the industry. No need to get defensive. Check a Landstar thread. Call them up and ask questions. I personally think you've got a pretty good gig at FedEx. I cant tell you what to do, but I can only tell what I would do. If it were me, I'd probably stay put. Now that said, have you hauled flatbed before? If you haven't, then you're learning curve on load securement will affect your pay. Second, a couple guys gave you some numbers on running an OO business. I know a lady that drives for Lanstar now. She is on the van side. She was telling me Landstar pays 68 percent of the rate. It sounds pretty rough. She showed me this app where books her loads. I saw van loads coming out of Laredo at 4 bucks a mile. That may have changed by now, but lets say that is gospel for instance. I would think flatbed would pay more. Also, you've made really good money at FedEx but do you have oodles of capital?
