Freedom don't always pay the bills. Besides, if you have to take a load to a spot you don't really want to go to because it pays, and you need to keep your business going, I don't exactly call that freedom.

What makes you think you won't have to so that as an owner from time to time?

I’m know I will because to be successful it may be a requirement but when the fiscal year changes and I still made company pay why do it? I love what I do but being an O/O hauling aggregate is extremely hard on a truck. I know what this type of weight breaks and what tickets come along with it, weeks pay gone as an O/o but as a company man I only made money on it

Maybe you should tell your company that your getting very burnt out and that to keep going with them you’ll need to drop down to 5 days per week. That you love driving for them but you can’t do it anymore. You’d be surprised some of the concessions companies will make if your a dependable and trustworthy driver for them.

Also your home every night sounds like which is nice for you. As an owner op I doubt that would happen. The guys you know that are owner ops keep going because they realize times are bad now but will get better. Can’t be a fair weather owner op.

Based on the information you provided I would stay a company driver.

Now this may be old school kind of thinking, but I would talk to oo's directly at truckstops, or while picking up or delivering loads or wherever I seen one that looked successful. And just because he is driving a shiny new rig does not mean he is successful either. lol

I do not think I would rely on internet info to make decisions like that.

You won't net $100k until after you learn the ropes for a few years. Depends on how much you have saved up, if the truck you buy breaks down, if you know where to find business, hundreds of factors that can make or break you.

Hate to tell you this but I make a hell of a lot more then any company driver. But then again I don't haul general freight.
