New member here, driving about 5 years and purchasing my first truck. I don't want to go all out and get an apu so I am putting together my own type of apu that will be primarily electric but backed up by a small generator. but before I get into it, I need some extra battery storage and a place to mount a 2000w inverter generator like a small Honda, for now the generator lives strapped to the catwalk just forward enough to not get ate up by the trailer nose and a 2 gallon gas can is set in the upper step for the catwalk and strapped down. I'm not sure how to go about getting a box or even how to get that mounted to the frame as I am having trouble finding something to simply buy and have shipped to me.
I have had only one good suggestion so far to get a m2 class trucks battery box and use that to hold the generator but that still leaves it exposed to the elements and getting that mounted presents another obstacle as there are no holes in that empty part of my frame.. as far as battery storage goes I would like to find a battery box that would mount under the catwalk like I saw on the day cab Columbia trucks I have driven ('10 year model) then put some deep cycle dedicated batteries in there instead of needing to change out the current battery setup.
TL;DR Need to find a frame mount battery box like the Columbia day cabs had, don't know how to mount those, need a box for a small generator to mount on RH side of truck, there are no holes there to mount from.
In the end i would like to have this setup be able to follow me to the newer cascadia should things work out that way, or, if this truck can go another 500k miles just keep running this one till it needs too much work.

use this formula. 117v x amps = watts. make sure you adjust to start up amps. they are not the same as running amps. also call trojan battery company tech support. they will tell you how and what you need for a battery bank

I've just about got a battery setup in mind with all that factored in. I'm not so strongly suited on the actual hardware side of the install. I know you're not supposed to drill through the frame for mounting but I've not found the right equipment to do what I need

used battery boxes you can find on ebay and at junkyards. Merritt has different kind of aluminum frame mount battery boxes that don't need frame hole drilling. check out Merritt's online catalog...

Something like these should work. Find a old battery box and carefully mod it to fit over you genny.
Pickup truck crossover tool boxes can be a alternative, sometimes a dented one can be found on craigslist for cheap. -
