Has anyone ever jumped into their truck and found it totally dead,,? Like so dead that even the clock on the radio is out? I measured the voltage across the battery bank and am measuring 12volts. I check the master power switch and it is in the on position. But the cab, lights everything is totally dead...but there is voltage at the battery. I have saeen bad batteries measure 12 volts before.. but i would think i would at least have enough energy for the clock to come on.. So strange It is a 2016 volvo vnl 670. I don't even know where to start on looking at the fuses and what not,,

Truck may have a low battery disconnect switch. It shuts off all power to everything except what is needed to start it.

Don't these new volvo trucks have a master power switch somewhere by the drivers door?
I had a driver who called the office, nothing was working on the truck dead as dead can get. Truck had 123,000 on the clock and the batteries were strong, he went through the repair process we have setup, he had the mechanic check the batteries then the power system fuses and so on. The mechanic said the batteries were great and said dealer. About ten minutes later, the mechanic came back, opened the drivers door, lifted the crap the driver had next to the seat, turn the switch off and then on again and everything worked. I was driving my 2015 Volvo on the freeway one foggy day when i lost power to my truck. Was no fun taking the truck from the left lane to the right curb without power steering and emergency blinking lights in the heavy traffic.Dave_in_AZ, Another Canadian driver and 2dogtruckin Thank this. -
That 150 amp fuse inline at the batteries could have a bad spot in it. Ask me how I know. When it is not connecting, the truck will be completely dead, absolutely nothing works. Pull that fuse out and just hook those lines together and see if it will crank. If it cranks, drive it and go to volvo and get the new fuse for $15.

It will have two studs threaded thru it with two small nuts holding it down. What happened on mine was that fuse had worked one side loose inside the black cover. So it appeared to look normal but had the whole truck dead. So I took that fuse out, took one side of the cable and put it on top of the other cable so the circuit was complete again, and tightened the nut down on it. Then the truck cranked fine.
so then you can either go to volvo or maybe oreillys and replace it cheap. If that’s not the problem you might be looking at a bad ecm which will be expensive. Best of luck to you.Last edited: Nov 16, 2019
