I didn’t find a thread covering this. I’m wanting to get my hazmat and unsure about what to do first. Do I take the test at bmv and then get the fingerprints and background check or the other way around? I can’t seem to find a straight answer on this. I’m licensed in Indiana if that matters. Thanks

Background check, then when it clears you get to take the test.

When I got my Hazmat a couple years ago in California I took the test at the DMV first and then did my background check and fingerprints

I got my Hazmat earlier this year. First, I went to get fingerprints/background check and exactly one week later I got my letter in the mail. Then, went to DMV.

dwalto Thanks this.

It varies state to state I'm sure, in PA I took my test at the DMV, then got an approval letter to get fingerprinted. You can't get fingerprinted here without that approval letter stating that you passed the test. Once you're printed, they mail you your new license within a week or so

In Texas it is test first then the DMV will tell you were to go to spend your money on the background part.
