I’m looking to purchase my 1st truck but am really on the fence on which truck to get with which engine. Looking for opinions and advice on which truck is going to have the least breakdowns. Looking at 2015,16,17 trucks with 300-400k miles. What truck would be my best bet to start with??

Seems like DD15 engine is good but their emissions box is not so good design. The DOC filters are welded into the box and when the go bad it's a $12,000 repair. DD15 had trouble with oil pickup tube cracking in oil pan. I think they fixed that

Cummins ISX has soot problems or not enough oil flow to cams on top of engine. The cams for valves would go bad. Cummins never admit it what their fault. They had some ceramic fuel pumps. If they go bad they take out the engine. They fixed with different fuel pump now. Cummins was smart enough to make their emissions system in parts. So you can replace a bad part

    Jmsjms000 Thanks this.

Bear in mind that the X15 is a different animal from the ISX15. The X15 is the new engine, being hyped as the new N14 Cummins in terms of reliability.

I run an ISX15, put 12,000 miles on it and thus far zero issues. This is with a cm2250 motor (2010 EPA standard) with now 533,000 miles on the clock.
