@TripleSix .. I planted fence posts for lunch money. At 9, 10, idk.....

Just put my mom into a 'home' (Country club golf course.... as she thinks...) Eastern Star she is; ...Mason, my dad. I'm sorry about your plight...through childhood. I get too choked up to always say all I want to...as you know.

Goodnight, bro... off running in a few hours. Mad respect; always.

    Tom

    ps: Freedom isn't free.

Ive heard guys say that but i dont believe it , it was designed to work with the adaptive cruise. All the trucks i have driven with the system , it would go off without cruise but not apply the brakes. Only did that with cruise on , but maybe ur right . i think all the technology needs to kick rocks. It is insane the stuff they put in these rigs and its probably only gonna get worse i can imagine

    Love this topic.

When I was younger, I helped at my Uncle's shop in the summer (being 8 years old I'm not sure how much 'help' I really was, but anyways).

He, along with my father, pounded into my little 8 year old head that nothing comes free, and all the luxuries I currently had were the results of someone's hard work and sacrifice.

I remember a bumper sticker he had on his air compressor, it said 'Get it the same way I did.... WORK FOR IT!'. For some reason, that little bumper sticker has stayed in my mind ever since.

30 years later, I can safely say, everything I have, (which isn't a whole lot lol) I have worked for, and got it honest. Never asked for anyone's help. (other than the banks, but they're being paid lol)

As such, I sleep well knowing that for the last 30 years, I've done things the right way.

What bothers me is I'm raising my daughter's the same way. They're 9 and 11. I'm not as strict with them as my parents were with me, but, they're girls, so that's a dilemma of sorts. But they get it. So much so that their teachers, and sports coaches have taken notice. I hear about it on a weekly basis.

But, the other kids in their classes don't seem to grasp the concept. Neither do the 'parents'. Don't get me wrong, there's some great kids and parents out there. But they're becoming less common it seems.

Dad had open heart surgery surgery in February. He's 63, and the doctor suggested he go on disability after all was said and done. He looked at the doctor and said 'Why would I do THAT? I'm still able to work, and as long as I can work, I'm gonna!'.

But one of the first calls he got after going home was from their neighbor, who happens to be 'disabled'. His question? 'When are you going back to work? My disability needs paid!' Dad hung up the phone, thought it over, and called Social Security and reported the idiot. He's able to go hunting, fishing, golfing, and lives a very normal life, until he goes to the doctor. Then he needs a wheelchair? Gimme a break. He's now kicked off disability, and has a job at Wal-Mart stocking shelves.

NOTHING comes free, and if you want it, get it the same way many others did.... WORK FOR IT!

Yeah I've heard that before too. It doesn't go off unless the cruise is on. But none the less it happens.

I drive Freightliner Mack and Kenworths at ABF. ALL of them do it with the cruise on or off. You just learn to deal with it. Do I like it? NO. Will I quit over it? NO.

Mine doesn't. Mine will activate with cruise on/off and with foot on the pedal or not on the pedal. 2018 Freightliner Cascadia. Mine also will activate for something the camera sees and also for something the radar sees.

The place where my automatic braking activates the most in on a city street with a low speed limit within a half-mile of the customer I am leaving. When I drive past that spot, the truck has been parked and not running for hours. I'm nowhere near anyplace I will use the cruise. The cruise system is off, not just haven't selected a speed for it to maintain. At one spot in a curve it senses something next to the road and begins a panic stop. Also, it will activate sometimes on the road when I have cruise in use.

Anyway, because it happens so many times at the one location where I don't/can't use the cruise I know the brakes will activate with cruise off. Now that I know the types of situations the brakes MAY activate on their own I am careful to note everything about the conditions and my truck when it activates. My OnGuard automatic braking system will and does activate regardless of cruise control operation. It also will activate the jake and or brakes to maintain following distance and match speed at a threshold following distance.

It's made to work WITH the adaptive cruise control AND it will also work without regard to the cruise control when it senses imminent collision. My heirs will be filthy rich when it causes my truck to wreck in rain or winter weather and I have my own dashcam to prove what happened. I also call in to my company Safety Hotline everytime it brakes for no reason. I am generating a record that will one day make someone rich.
