It may not be large as a percentage of total employment numbers but all of their production facilities are in hard scrabble towns. The impact on those locations will not go unnoticed.

Yeah, I was working as a machinist for Detriot when I was younger (rebuilding S-60 heads). Things got hard after 9-11. To the point the management was asking the workers if they had any ideas of how they could keep their facility working with the equipment they had available.

Now today, with the more widespread internet and information accessible, it "could" be a non issue. IMO...
All the equipment in any given facility and they don't know what else to do with it? I think they could.

They need to work on their quality. We purchased 2 new Petes with ISX engines back in 2015. One was burning oil right from the dealer lot. By the time it had 300K miles we had to add a gallon every 1k miles. Dealer refused to do anything about it saying it was within manufacturers limits. We had to get rid of the truck. Will never buy anything with Cummins.

I'm surprised it took this long for layoffs to happen.
The new trucking industry is not new trucks.
It's 25 years old piles of junk, that now out number
    New equipment.
Don't believe me, look around at the truck stop
    When you park tonight.

Beat up container trucks are now the choice
    For general OTR freight.

    ChevyCam and JonJon78 Thank this.
