Hi y’all.
So I’m about to start my second career after 20 years in the army. I plan on going through the Troops to Transport program. And have a prospective job with a pipeline repair company, but also want to keep my options open. That being said let me get the short and sweet about companies you have worked for. I know if I wanted to read through all 35 million post on here I would get the info. But that would take forever.
What I do know is to stay away from lease programs, England, Swift, prime, JB hunt and most mega carriers. But there are so many companies so I want to narrow down my short list before my retirement date and I need to get a real job. Thanks in advance.

Where will you live after the Army? This tells us the hiring area you'll be in for various companies.

Are you staying close to Ft. Hood for convenience to the bennies? Austin/San Antonio?
Decent money in tankers. -
I was actually thinking oilfield, but just trying to keep my options open. I bought a house in Kempner so the wife wants to stay. So I been thinking bout running a dump hauling sand and gravel as well.

Oil field is slow right now but central Texas should have tons of opportunities. Help @Chinatown help you. Give him more data.

"Troops to Transport"? Due to the current economy, I thought it was t'other way 'round. As many here know, I'm not the biggest supporter of trucking today. With your military service, many NON-trucking outfits will roll out the red carpet for you. In trucking, you'll just be another schmoe freight hauler ( no offense to current freight haulers I was one myself, you know) Take your military experience to a higher level, and not a step down to trucking. Thanks for your service.
rachi, yankatank and skinnytrucker Thank this. -
Whatever you do do NOT take a Tractor trailer off road.
They are NOT capable of it.
That is not to say we don't force a rig across off road now and then... I thought I understood off road until I got to Arkansas. The way these boys like to do it goes by one rule. Brown grass only good for truck. Green grass = water in the soil and sink the truck deep. -
The amount of stupid that falls out of the mouths of some people never ceases to amaze me
exhausted379, HopperHauler and jamespmack Thank this.
