I've noticed that there seems to be nobody who likes both Volvos and Hood trucks. They're always plainly on one side or the other. What's the deal? They both seem to have their upsides.
There is no overlap between Volvo and Hoods.

When volvo bought GMC they made a long hood truck that took a T/S lot to turn around?

Similar to how most people who loved muscle cars wouldn't be caught dead driving a honda or toyota.

Not only do I think the long hood is ugly, I think it's ridiculous and completely not practical to need a football field to turn around in.
I like things that are practical and functional.

I love my hoodless volvo, but when its time to replace in a few years I'll probably order a Mack Pinnacle. Never driven one nor even sat in one, just seems like the best of both worlds. It's so odd looking IMO and kind of ugly, but in a good way.
I rented a gorgeous decked out 389 the other mlnth from the outfit I work for and loved it. I always really liked the hoods, but they just arent practical for my gig. I've Always loved big western stars as well and have driven them for most of my career - kinda daydreaming about a 4900 too to replace my vulva, but again, the practicality thing. And not crazy about Detroit or Cummins. So it would have to be an older cat powered one from the golden era (when they built em here in Kelowna)

Nothing prettier than a flat top kw or pete done up right and with the right suspension and wheelbase you won't find a better handling truck on the highway.
If your living in the truck Volvo has the best setup short of a bit house truck. So I can see the pluses there.
Now what would I buy? Easy. I'd buy a cat powered corn binder! Those international trucks are cheap, and reliable. They don't look as nice as the others and aren't as comfortable as the Volvo but they get the job done. -
I drive a W900L and a Volvo 760. The interior design on the Volvo is far superior to the 9. Ride and handling are about equal. I love the I shift vs the 13 speed in the W9. 525 Cummings far better than the D13 (465 or 500). KW is a triple digit truck, vs 72 on the Volvo. Biggest issue with the 900 is the lack of space between the seats, nature of the beast. Comes with the hood. W9 5.5 mpg, Volvo 6.5-7 mpg. Bottom line perfect truck is hard to come by.

I only drove one Volvo in my life, for two days, it was an older one, think it was a '96? Anyways, I kinda liked it, it rode really well even though the shocks were shot. It was my buddy's farm truck and I was helping him out.
To the point though, I prefer something I can actually see the end of the hood. (It doesn't have to be an extended hood 379 or w900, either) So for me, a truck with little longer hood suits me. I've driven the short snub nose trucks, where you can't see any of the hood, and had a hell of a time with them. I guess if I ran one more I'd get used to it, I dunno. But driving down the road, I had a tough time keeping it between the lines, as I couldn't see anything of the hood, I drove with the mirrors I guess.
