Oh very cool. I'm usually up there doing the stores around 12 to 3 am. Easy to get in and get out. Couldn't imagine breaking and hooking a set in middle of busy parking lot lol

Sorry for bringing back up an older thread, but I just wanted to ask @DrummingTrucker how realistic of a possibility would it be for FWCC to hire a relatively inexperienced driver? I saw awhile back that they are hiring for Salisbury, I filled an application but no response back (as I figured) and I don't want to waste anyone's time with a call if there's absolutely no chance of getting hired. I've got 11 months of driving experience with all my endorsements, but no experience with doubles. Some form of LTL or something like this is ultimately what I want to do, it's just hard finding a place that will give you the opportunity to learn, at least for me around the CLT area.

Hey man sorry I'm just now getting back to you. I think if I'm not mistaken they want at least a year. So you are right at that mark now. Things are slowing down since Christmas is just about gone..If I were you I'd try them say around February into March and try. If you got anymore questions I will do my best to answer.

What is the work environment like as a driver? Basically do they trust you enough to do your job or watch your every move (Driver facing camera). Is there a cellphone policy?
What are the options available for a solo driver? Piggybacking off that, what would be a realistic mileage target based on a weekly/daily average.
Is the home daily section legitimate? I'm 22, but I want to spend time with the people I love more than just 34 or 48hrs if possible (I understand this is trucking, but this is how I personally feel.)
How is mileage paid out? As you can imagine working where I do, I'll never want to go back to HHG ever again.
How is the equipment, power inverter's, APU's things if that nature.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my message, I've obviously got to keep my options open, but FWCC is a place I'd want to be at in the not so distant future.Last edited: Dec 20, 2019

You want to accumulate some home time to make it worth while.
I think it is good that you have people you love at 22, it was not really the case on my end at that age. (I had several, but in the end I was a long haul trucker and they had their own lives.)
If you accumulate say 6 days off then go home. It will take you half a day or a day to get settled at home away from that truck and catch up on your sleep etc. Make sure you leave off your phone and so on. You are not to be bothered by company until the hour they expect you back to work on the last day leaving home.
I used to short circut the dispatch at Memphis being about 3 hours and change away from my home. They wanted me there after midnight and then sit all day monday until noon or later when they do find a trailer. I show up at noon. They hate that. Asked me about it and I told them, I am not a lackey to be ordered about to sit here from midnight to noon on nothing. If you have a loaded trailer ready to go when I get there great. Otherwise I'll get there when I am good and ready.
They never liked that too much. But since we were a valued asset tot he company there isnt much they can do other than make a loaded trailer ready to go when I get there at 2 am and hook on.
You don't see it now but 30 to 50 years from now you will wonder #### where did all this time go? It is good you have people you love and to be home for them while you can.EuropeanTrucker, Gamecock Taylor and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -

Ok I will try and answer these questions and as honest as I can be. You're first question was what is the work environment like?? No they do not watch your every move. Once you complete your training and you and the trainer sign off..they expect you for the most part to be able to do the loads. You either hire on to do store shuttle which is home daily or team which is out 5 to 6 days..more like 5. You will come in nightly Mon thru Fri hook your set then go to the stores. You will have two stores nightly in most cases..one pup goes to one store other pup goes to store #2. You hook the return trailers and come back to DC where you started the shift. Drop your set fuel go home repeat that night. Second Mileage pay..you are paid for all your miles, your drop/hooks, and to fuel the truck. They also pay you for any and all detention/breakdown. More than likely you will not see any delay doing stores at night unless you do a vendor pickup. Mostly you can do each store in about 15 mins from time you drop and rebook the sets. The equipment they do have older trucks which you may start out it in..however rest of units are 3 yrs old at worst..I will say they are dead on when it comes to needing anything fixed. They keep the trucks washed weekly and expect you to keep the trucks clean inside. All KW autos. Expect to be off 34 to 48 on your off time. I'd say avg pay yrly for a night time shuttle driver to be $60 to 85k depending on how you work. Some night time shuttles are 500 miles easy. Teams make 80k to 100k+ easy. Full benefits paid vacation holidays, 401k you name it. All in all it's not perfect but you are you're own boss when you leave each night. Only forward facing cameras and will never be driver facing they have made that clear. They are big on safety and expect you to be safe..weathers bad?? Pull it over!! No backlash whatsoever from management on that policy. Hopefully I've answered what you were looking for. If you need more info ask away!!
