With the D16 ,combined with the light loads, you will have a engine that never be pushed.
Just to big off a engine for your needs.
Second reason,as others have stated,it is better to buy a engine everybody uses.
More parts, cheaper parts, more mechanics who know them,........bzinger and Thetrashnoob Thank this. -
Reliability is going to be hit or miss, depending on how it was made and who took care of it before you. My 2012 is over 930,000 miles and still running good. Since they discontinued the D16, getting one is just going to increase your risk of expenses increasing or more down time.
I wanted to order a new upper radiator hose, but would have to wait a few days for them to order the part. When the EGR cooler was bad, I would've had to wait a few days for one to show up. When the idler pulley went out, they didn't carry it in Denver, but I was lucky that they carried it in Cheyenne. If I had a D13 or a Cummins, I could've had those parts the same day. The parts also seem to cost about 30% more than they would for a D13.
I would also think that mechanics would be less familiar with working on a D16, which could lead to more labor time or even making mistakes since they're used to working on the D13.bzinger and Thetrashnoob Thank this. -
Sad testament to the fact I live in Omaha and theres a volvo dealer here .
As I said there were areas where It absolutely shined one of which was the pre heater , it would start in the coldest of weather after being off all night.
When it ran right it gave a few 550 cats a run for they're money.
Mid 8s on fuel were not uncommon under the right conditions and a light foot .loudtom and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
