I don't have any pictures of my first truck. I was embarrassed to own a '93 FLD 120, but this was my first new truck. '97 379. First year of the UltraCab and the first 550 CAT.

Me in 1999 in front of my first assigned Harold Ives tractor. That's a 1996 or 1997 Kenworth T800. (Can't remember the year.)
Sure, I inherited it from a more experienced driver, and sure, it had a few miles on it and some flaking paint on the front (that was apparently a common problem on those trucks), but it was well-maintained and never let me down.
I kind of miss that truck.railtruckdriver853, Baack, JustSonny and 1 other person Thank this. -

From the early days of my career.
The truck on top was a 1977 K100 with a Cummins V903, 280 HP.
It had this awfull torsion bar suspension that was a real backbreaker.
Manual center point steering was a total workout too.
The middle truck was the last year for the TranstarII. 1980
First year of the Cummins Formula 300. It replaced the old "shiny 290"
This one had power steering and was also the first new truck I was ever assigned. The next time I drove a brand new truck was when I bought my own 17 years later. (The blue '97 Pete in my earlier post)
Bottom picture was a plain jane work truck. Builders Transport was cheap.1983 Freightliner. Check out that excuse for a front bumper. To be fair a lot of trucks had short bumpers back then like the top truck. That was for if you blew a steer tire it would sling clear and not get wrapped up.
Had a 300 Cummins, 7 speed Spicer transmission and a 3:90 gear.
Yes, it was slow and rode like a buckboard.
Btw, none of these trucks had air ride. They did have air seats and the white one had PS.
I'm not one of those guy that remembers the good old days as being all good. Those trucks were hard on the body, especially having little or no AC.

This is me sitting on my first truck "Thumper" back in 1974. 1960 Pete with a
262 Cummins with a twin stick 4 speed main and a 4 speed Brownie. No air seat,
no speedometer, no door panels or headliner, no roll up side windows and no
heater but she did have that world famous 2-55 air conditioning.Giggles the Original, JustSonny, 1989 Pete and 1 other person Thank this. -
