I have aluminum side rails too. But I also have a LOT of steel. Maybe it has to do with the coil package? I have no idea. I just know that the all the great dane, fontaine, and Utility combo units I looked at had steel frames, crossmembers, front plates, drop plates, 2 strips down the middle of the decks, and under the outer rails where the aluminum deck attaches to the crossmembers. That's why I use that steel on steel area for attaching straps and chains when I can. Yea those new trailers are LIGHT..

But back to the original topic. The real reason rates are tanking is because of ME!
Snatched this RGN load going to NM last week.
If it fits, IT SHIPS....:D 20191228_164224.jpg

I think it has to do with yours being a drop deck instead of a flat. When I was shopping for mine and again for my customer, the side rails were all aluminum. Also both have the coil package.

you sure it's not because trucking is a race to the bottom? Quit hauling freight for such cheap rates! Let it rot at the shipper's dock until it pays better!

Maybe that's all he could manage with the rates?

I'm just poking fun. I've bought the wrong size by accident. Went to put it on and said this isn't gonna work and dug out the old one.

I was on a job site once where the riggers were not allowed on the deck of my trailer. They worked from the basket of a boom lift, putting slings on each piece and connecting them to the hook, then swinging the boom lift out of the way before each pick...you can't imagine how much time this process took...
Another more recent idea, in the name of safety is setting up rows of scaffolding on each side of the trailer as "safety platforms" for the unloaders to be able to step away from the load when the crane is making a pick...

That's a SD load all day and I'm sure the rate reflected that. We took a grader to KS last week on an RGN that was originally posted for SD but he couldn't get any takers. Needed the RGN to go out there anyway so it worked out, but I was surprised.
