Hey guys! It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this site, a lot has changed for me. I was actually banned like 2 years ago for being an ##* to one of the mods for that I apologize it isn’t an excuse but I was going through A lot of bs at the time and I was stupid. I signed up on these forums when I first started driving in 2013 and documented my experiences with 2 different companies I worked for, I’m formally known as T_Trucker.

Since 2017 I had been working local at a moving company, I was tired of OTR my fiancé was tired of me being gone so I came off the road to do what I did before I got my cdl. It kind of felt like I was taking a step back but I was paying my bills and home every night and everybody was happy. I enjoyed being home every night, I wasn’t in love with my job.. not like I was when I was driving, I missed being on the road I missed traveling and seeing/meeting different people. Anyone familiar with household moving can agree that doing locals 6 days a week can be physically draining. Especially in the Florida heat.

So fast forward a little bit, last year I began becoming interested in going back on the road, it took some talking into and consideration from the fiancé and lots of research as I’ve always done but she finally gave me the “ok” lol. plus financially speaking I was making enough to pay the bills...not much else, pay check to paycheck and we both became stressed week to week. So going back on the road seemed like a good idea, win win. So, I looked into a few different companies that could run me out and back and get me home every 7-10 days which seemed not bad...but the money wasn’t there. Florida has never been a good lane for freight. When I ran OTR I would stay out 3-5 weeks and sometimes longer, I wasn’t wanting to stay out that long to make money. After giving it a lot of thought I decided to work for a van line that will run me how I want to run. I’ve been in and around the moving industry my whole life, my dad and uncle were both movers there whole lives so it was something I felt comfortable doing. Ofcourse on a way bigger scale, I make more money but have a lot more overhead/responsibilities but so far I’m loving it! It breaks up the routine of just driving every day. One day I’m loading, driving, and the next loading again or unloading.

I’ve noticed there isn’t a lot of information on The Household industry on this forum so I’ll post my adventures as I learn myself.

So you went back into running the road as a bedbugger? What van line and agent are you running for? When I ran for Arpin direct they ran me in and out of Florida. I was the 95 kid, ri,ct,ma,nh, to Florida and back. I was in fl so much the old lady accused me of having a woman down there. But I was home (mass/nh) so much. My friends were always saying home again did you quit? Anyway I'm still with the van lines. But mostly doing logistics, medical equipment, computers and servers and trade shows now.

Once single source kicks in. Unless your a pack and load WORKING driver. You might want to think about switching over to the logistics/spec comm side. I gross a lot less than I did bed bugging ($196,000) this year. But my NET was almost the same. And I took almost 3 months off at home. (Plus days or weekends off on the road)

Were you an A to the mod or was it the other way around.

A lot of people were run off. The mods are all gone. They made their own home. No need to apologize.

Are you the guy that used to lease a dark grey T680 KW on Schneider Choice program?

There are some mods who have left, but for the most part, we are still here, viewing most every thread.

Quite frankly, the staff appreciates his apology and him being forthcoming about his past presence on the forum.

my dad has told me to go this route several times for the sake of saving my body. For now I love household. Sure there are some BS jobs, crappy help, annoying shippers, tight neighborhoods but I love the work. I try to take the good with the bad, for me at this moment the good outweighs the bad by a lot. I’ve done about every aspect of this job besides anything office/sales related... being a Otr contractor is something I’ve never done but have always wanted to try. When I was 18-21 I strictly worked as cash labor for drivers, since then I’ve always kind of held this position on a pedestal as something I’d love to do. After I got my cdl and left the moving business to haul freight I always thought about doing it again only on this scale. It took about 5 years but here I am lol, so for the time being I’m going to learn as much as I can and Embrace my decision good or bad lol.

I’m in Michigan now. Waiting to pick up tomorrow morning about 30 minutes down the road. I’ve got a total of 3 shipments planned going to Florida after I get those off I can take a few days at the house and finally get all my stuff in this truck!

    Cabinover101 Thanks this.
