Are you saying the Pennsylvania state safety inspection mechanic will not inspect your truck with an older engine?

Myself, I think the engine swaps as far as legal and EPA really are trucks 2003 and earlier.

But I can't understand why a Pennsylvania safety inspection would even be looking for what year your engine is. They should just be looking for brakes and tires and lights and that type of thing.

I would just find another inspection mechanic.

I carry the Docs AND the engine plate with me Juuuuust in case a smart alec DOT wants to see documentation....

My mechanic doesn't care what year engine is in my truck. But on the other hand, my engine also matches my VIN.

However, as a long term resident of PA, our vehicle code is stupidly strict. You basically cannot do anything to modify your vehicle in any way from factory. But if you get out of the major cities, inspection mechanics will overlook mods in most cases.

 

I could believe if a mechanic thought you tampered with emissions equipment or you put an engine into an emissions truck that doesn't belong there, maybe I could see them checking into that.

But if you had a truck with a series 60 in it, and you put an older series 60 in it I don't know how they would even know unless you have stickers all over the engine.

Even if you just bought a crate engine and put it into your truck that's not going to match the VIN anyway.

But it is true that PA does not want you to modify your vehicle. They don't even want you to add a lift axle or do anything to increase your payload unless you are a certified bodybuilder.

I don't think you are even allowed to add a lift axle and then have someone else certify it.

 

Like I said, PA is stupid strict on stupid stuff.

Heck, eventually I have to start researching yanking my '13 ISX15 and possibly replacing it with a new X15 along with the updated DPF/SCR system. Not 100% sure PA will allow that.
