There that's what trucking in the early 2000s 20 some odd years ago looked like.

I started with USF Reddaway in 2012 and we were running several power units from what I would guess is the TNT era. Lots of 90's Freightliners, which included a cabover team sleeper that had been repurposed into a daycab. So the "doghouse" between the two seats was all nicely carpeted but transition to the sleeper had a wall installed. The sleeper was just torn out, so you had the burden of a longer wheel base without the benefit of having somewhere to take a few cat naps.

I think we hung on to our equipment so long in part due to our drivers taking such good care of their stuff. My '97 Freightliner was in remarkably phenomenal shape. All the panels and controls were constantly cleaned and nothing was damaged.

Now on the USF Holland side, our trucks are complete garbage. I think this is in large part due to our higher number of drivers, along with a average turnover rate. People flat out don't give a crap and equipment that is 10 years newer than Reddaway gets totally trashed and destroyed.

We still see old trailers with the TNT logo covered. I've also seen plenty of Dugan trailers as well. What else is funny is my old Reddaway barn had an old service center map hung up outlying all the terminals from Reddaway, Holland, Dugan, Bestway, and I think Glen Moore was on there too. I really wish I snagged it before I quit... Or even just taken a picture of it.

It was those very ads floating around when I started driving for Werner back in late '01. Loved driving those Classics.

About the `` TNT ghosts haunting the transportation world `` here an example and an interesting coincidence.

John Campbell Carruth, the guy who built the TNT operations in North America as President of Alltrans Group Canada from 1973 until 1984, CEO and President of Transport Group (TNT US holding) also CEO and President of TNT North America Land Transportation from 1985 to 1991, CEO and President of TNT Freightways Corp. from 1992 until the separation
of TNT and TNT Freightways and finally reappointed CEO and President of US Freightways from 1997 until his retirement in 2000, will be appointed few years later on the Old Dominion Freight Line Board as one of its Directors.
