Meijers is one place near the Detrioter that I refer to now and then. They run two dock lines. The front line of docks is non union, its on you to unload it.

The back line is solid union they unload in a hell of a hurry because broker or shipper paid some money to make it happen FAST.

And thus for us that house is a story of a two sided coin in my life. The front half got me banned for life after I raised hell one day wrestling with a system I knew nothing about and decades (Plural) later I show up at the Gaurd house with spouse as a team having been told by company OFFICERS, not just dispatchers... to expect to be unloaded in the back dock in 15 minutes.

The man in the gaurd shack looked me over real hard. Saw the ears (Aids) asked me my name.

    "YOU!"

    Who ME?

Yes you deaf SOB etc etc etc... never listen to anything.

Maybe SHE takes the truck around back huh? This is Your Unloading issue not the front docks.

We were empty in about 12 minutes and rolling in 18 minutes. FFE asked us is there a problem?

Oh no, just a matter of a old grump who remembered me from the late 80's

    What did you do?

Don't ask... what matters is we got good service and out of there BOL's signed and stamped.

Once upon a time I pulled dry van. Lumper fees are just one reason why I don't do it anymore. Waiting 6-8 hrs for something to be unloaded that HAD to be there by 2pm and don't flippin be late is another.

I like my flatbed work. When I show up to be loaded, (unless it's a yoonyun steel mill), I get loaded and get gone. The same way at my destination. There's no cletus barely able to drive a forklift picking his nose while looking around for a place to stack pallets that shouldn't be stacked. No obese woman with crotch odor so bad people waiting for signed BoLs are gagging. And no palms that want extra grease to do their ###### job.

Should have been to the Safeway DC in Richmond CA. I was there for 26 hours at the dock once.. I was never so glad to hear the news that it burned to the ground.

I never had to go to that one since we got rid of our vans but we've hauled a lot of fuel out of Chevron Richmond.
Cutting Blvd. on the first Saturday night of the month always reminded me of one gigantic crime scene.
That whole area is a prime candidate for urban renewal.

I pulled propane out of the same area.. the propane racks were on the really shady side! LOL.. Had one driver come into the rack with a bullet "groove" on the front of his tank.. I'd rather load in Martinez

I was born in Richmond. Worked for a sheetrock plant there for 17 years. Made that run up and down Cutting Blvd between Point Richmond and I 80 at night many times. In fact many nights I would stop at a bar about half way up.
Of course this was 30 years ago and there have been a lot of changes.

Search warehouse/forklift/picker jobs in Tracy CA area, they are paying an insulting wage of about $14 bucks an hour.
