So after having been practically handed a job while being interviewed, after I signed the papers I was told they weren't hiring ex-felons. I am given 3 phone numbers and told,"you're going to have to reach out to these people for a hire letter". I called 2 out of the 3 and was denied employment. I called and based on my gut feeling (I felt like I was being handled) pulled my application to the school. I was met with statements like,"why haven't you called May"? "you need to step on it if you wanna be a truck driver" and "get over the fact that the other 2 denied you a job and apply". I never did apply for May trucking. I received a phone call from May yesterday and based on a couple of questions was told a Pre-Hire letter is pending. I got a call from the school and, behold! they have a pre-hire letter for me. What gives? Anyway I gently and gracefully bowed out of school saying I will be getting back to them in the near future.
From my experience here I have learned that the schools basically fill out the same application available to me at home. So I don't understand how they were able to streamline everything so quickly.
I didn't appreciate the school's recruiter's approach and condescending attitude and if that is an indication of how they do business I want no part of it.
So as we stand I am looking to alternative schools that are cheaper (they were charging $7,000) and more personable. I hope I come across as high maintenance because I am not, I'm just 54 and would like to be spoken as such
Interesting tactics used by recruiters

Schools contact the trucking companies with a phone call. They already have contacts with trucking companies and a phone call is all that's needed.
Probably can get out much cheaper with a community college or tech school cdl program. There's some near Tampa.Lonesome, brian991219 and Puppage Thank this. -

You should be asking what companies allow felons not just hoping to slip by that should be your first question

Felons go trucking school all the time. We welcomed like 6 hardened felons in my class of 22 and we all had a great time they did great. One did threaten me personal violence application if I failed class A that day in the DMV knowing what I learned in school. (I passed) which is normal for how they do business in Baltimore back then. -
It’s ten street, a recruiting program. All the info you provided for 1 company (in your case, I think it was Werner), once denied, is then sent out to company 2, 3, 4, and so on.
It might sound shady or illegal, but at some point during your visit you signed (probably electronically) that it was okay for them to do so. Congrats on the job offer.
