The truck won’t run without the dpf. Everyone would drop the filter if that would work.

Trucks already beeping and driving slow. As I've said, it's already running stop engine light with derate. almost all problems with this truck I've had have been after treatment.

Recently, after trying to get to where i could drop the 1700 in parts, i had one of the flanges to the scr pipe completely give out. It was literally the project for the next settlement. Had to finagle the money to buy parts then. Went to ship to clear derate and get permission from dealer to drive full speed again. Computer refused to clear stop engine light. Had to drive for a full day that time and truck finally relented and turned off stop light. Had to drive the rest of the weekend only half derated until Monday when i could get the computer to give the truck permission to run right again. So I'm not a stranger to how messed up the after treatment is.

I'm not looking to delete the dpf. Major shops will not work on deleted truck, they get fined 10k if they're caught, no sense for them to risk it. I don't have a good shade tree mechanic for engine work, still trying to find a way to afford the #### computer, and still cannot yet afford all tools and don't have enough skill to make all repairs. Delete isn't a viable option yet.

Just wanted to know if anyone took their filter out and ran it. Could that damage the engine. Didn't know if anyone has experience on that so i asked here

    I agree!
with the DPF removed the ecm know there is something missing or wrong.. what are you going to do with all the temp sensors.. will be derate and stop engine light will come on soon after that.
Stop by a shop, have them scan for codes so at least you know what the issue is that cause the problem. If you keep driving like that you will end up spending more money and more down time. Do it the right way and get it over with.

Unfortunately, I can relate to having a mechanically sound truck except for the emissions. A lot of people have been in that boat.
If you google the maintenance schedule for your emissions you’re probably right in the time frame.

My humble advice would be to replace the dozer, cook or replace the doc and dpf as soon as you can afford it. Otherwise you’ll be in and out of the shop replacing that stuff one by one.

Honestly, I’m not a mechanic but replacing that stuff on your own is really not that hard as opposed to $100 plus an hour in labor.

On a side note are you using much def? The def has a heater and sometimes they give out and cause a lot of problems too. Being way up north in the cold really can affect it.

    Don’t give up!

Bet it gets wayyyy worse if you pulled the DPF out.

    @pushbroom what's it gonna do?

Its gonna drive for a couple blocks then 5mph derate and 1000rpm rev limit. Trying to pull a trailer would be insanity. Never mind how disgusting loud it would be.
871 cummins could drive for a couple miles with the pipe removed before the dpf. 2350 wont go more then a block or two.
If ya aint got the cash to fix it right hang up the keys and drive for someone else. If you keep half assing stuff it will always break again and cost even more. Its a sad spiral.

Just buy reman parts and send your back in for a core charge and fix it right the first time and then roll hard

I'm not asking the question right i guess.

I'm asking if anyone has ever removed their dpf filter and put exhaust back together. I'm already running the stop light and severe derate, so that i can deal with.

What i don't know is if running without the filter in will damage the engine (get too hot and damage it) or if the ecm will register the dpf is gone and completely stop truck. I can currently run derated with 10psi. It's terrible but can still get it done. I cannot run if the truck turns fuel off completely.

I appreciate everyone chiming in but you're providing responses I'm not asking for. I intend to get the shops computer on the truck to further identify the trucks complaint. I expect with the problems I've had that I'm going to have to do off the truck cleaning of filter for correction. I will just down the truck and make proper repairs before trying the duct tape methods.

Since it is likely i will have to have filter cleaned and i live in Casper wyoming, the peterbilt here couple potentially take a week to clean it. That's unacceptable down time.

That's why i was asking if anyone has experience running without the dpf filter temporarily. I want to clean filter and not have unacceptable down time
