Parking at the truck stop head first

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by Badmon, Jan 25, 2020.

Do you defend the nose-in drivers ?

  1. I pull nose-in myself

  2. No, they're idiots

  3. I dont care it doesn't affect me

Sucks to be nosed in to avoid the sound of a reefer and have a stink wagon back in beside you.

That it's a silly excuse in my opinion and its safer to back in. I personally have never been too disturbed by a reefer parked next to me. Sure I might notice it kick on once or twice. But it's not like it resembles a jumbo jet taking off and I forget about it quickly. I guess that's just me tho

You have to back in or back out. I don't see the difference. I can't back for #### though, since I pull open decks now. ;)

Most don't bother me too much after I acclimate to them.
But, I've had some doozies that sound like a bulldozer with the choke stuck wide open beside me.
    They're rare, TG.

If you're backing out of a spot and got 2 53 foot boxes on both sides of you, you really have no clue at all what's going on around you

Most of our trailers have fixed rear axles. My nose sticks out if I back in even with a 48.

Finally a post in this thread that I agree with.

For clarity, I'll only nose in if I drive really late and am afraid I'll screw up backing in.

Mostly I've been playing devil's advocate just because OP was tossing "stupid" around so freely.

There are some spots that have a clear shot out if you nose in. Granted you can not see to the sides, but if you go slow any approaching trucks 'should' stop and wait. Also granted, many do not - like they are daring you to hit their truck as you back out.

Then there are some truck stops that design the spots for a nose in situation. Either nose in or blind side it in. Both ways present a bad backing situation, in my opinion.

The people I really don't understand are those that nose in, in the middle of a row. They have no chance of getting out unless there are a couple empty spaces next to them.

I have to agree with the OP.
Nosing in is never a very safe option.
