The only time I hauled frozen chicken was to the ports of savanah or Pensacola to be loaded on ships.
All the loads to distributors that supplied restaurants like KFC or others were ice packed. Thus all the chicken juice getting on people’s windshields. :(

it was my understanding that live chicken haulers would have incandesent lights inside with the chickens to help keep them warm. Those inside lights looked so cool that people started putting them on the outside of the truck. but i have been wrong before

I sold out in 2000 was still running a 400 big cam Cummings #10 button shimed out to 2700 rpm reserved opened 1/4 annaroid valve open for instant throttle response. 355 rears 13speed 1986 W900 285 wheel base. Was leased to SANTISI trucking yo. Oh. You drove when you needed slepth when you needed could stop and have supper say lake station take a nap and wait for everyone to go home in rush hour then go. Lots safer. Now you have electronic logs by collage boys lawyers and politics who never have been in a truck making rules. Start times always changing against the advice of doctors about the natural cadiance of sleep cycles. You know the government will throw lots of money at a preceved problem and screw it up. How about taking driver simulators to schools and fairs so people can find out how to act around trucks. Wouldn't want to upset the voters. Started with a chauffeur LIC over 3.5 mill miles still drive but on pipeline and off road equipment would rather be dangling off a D8 winch line than play on the highways lot safer. Be safe always leave yourself a way out don't be the diesel dummy get home to your families. DOC. X chicken hauler

2 hrs OK from c/house to plant, kill and ice pack.
Then the trip from GA or MS to CA was the probable ref time.
Lotta ice water running out of trailer at Sierra Blanca,TX, fueling
    20 hours out of Morton,MS.

The big fast shiney rooster cruisers hauled frozen or processed chicken, not live chickens. California didn't have a poultry industry. They were the most populated state, and probably the most healthy conscious state in the U.S.. This means they had a HUGE demand for poultry, and since there wasn't a poultry producing industry....it had to be trucked there. Who trucked it there ? Chicken haulers, in large cars known as rooster cruisers or chicken trucks !
