could you give me some suggestions?
I am a new immigration from China. and I live in Conroe TX. I don't have work experience in the US. now I want to be a truck driver. I have two worries. First, is that easy to find a job if I go to a trucking school to get a CDL A?(how about Houston community college? they have the program ) another, should I find a company to sign a contract with for a CDL A? @Chinatown

@BigpopperRunner maybe can help here also.
Houston Community College is excellent for cdl school.
How long have you had a USA drivers license?
Many companies require you to at least have had a USA drivers license for 12 months and some even longer.
Where did you live in China? My wife is from Anhui Province.

Contact the school and ask about recommendations.
Try to get the cdl, then probably find something local for awhile.

Get your cdl, and if necessary, drive a non-cdl truck for 12 months.
May not have to do that, but it's a job and helping you qualify for what you really want later.

Honestly it’s pretty easy to find a local trucking job in Houston, Texas. If you want to pay for the school yourself that would be the best bet, however, I don’t recommend signing up with a company but if you must then there’s no choice! You need to do a one year contract with that company after you graduate, most people break that contract after 3 months. I applied to ONLY local positions straight out of CDL school and I got lucky and currently working on my 3rd day. Just be prepared like everyone says, your hours are super duper long, local or OTR. If you have a family prolly local works best, check out the “asian mai show” on YouTube, he interviews ppl fresh out of cdl school and one person is from Houston, Texas, his YouTube channel is husky racer, he got signed to a fuel company named “greondyke” I think that’s how you spell it. You can tune In and listen. Apply for fafsa for a community college, I don’t know if you would qualify since you need to be a resident of Texas. If anything grab a loan, most companies have tuition reimbursement programs.

Plenty of non-cdl jobs around Houston.
Let us know what you find out at the school.
Maybe you can go to school, then go to a cdl driving job.
