This is a good time to buy good truck at bargain prices. I am looking for something under 200k miles, I really like International with Cummins engine though I am open to KW, Freightliner. I am going to be doing mostly short hauls, so I can get by with a day cab.

I appreciate your help to turn me on to good sources to find a great deal on a good used truck.

Schneider sells their trucks once they reach engine warranty no matter the miles for a big discount.

What do you mean "reach engine" warrant? You mean they sell them when the engine warranty runs out?

Watch the auctions. I saw about 60 celadon trucks outside Memphis. Probably 8-10 were international day cabs.

What auctions do you watch? The ones listed on Truck paper?

IF you intend to buy a tractor at auction, bring 10 gallons fuel with you. They will be very thirsty.

I used to be a crew boss with truck sales auction in Little Rock. Many tractors ran out of fuel after 3 minutes warming up before the barn or at the door to the barn. The fuel truck usually charged someone like 20 dollars a gallon until we could turn them over and get em back parked. That takes a few gallons.

How do you dyno these at the auction? Is there a place to look up historical data to see what similar trucks go for?

I remember a mack day cab of about a 1998 year with a gas rig tanker trailer of about 40 foot. The trailer had a monster leak. And the tractor was tired.

There I sit on the sale floor with the barker trying to gin up bidding. What they did not know but could very well hear was that I had half the trolley on to feed trailer to keep the wheels loose and the engine at a high idle to keep it up there and not die on me.

I think they sold that whole thing for 6000. Flat. Not too many were interested in it once they had ears and eyes to see what I was doing in there to keep it moving. What I am getting at is trucks sent to auction will have something wrong with them, which would be or may not be the reason they are at auction.
