I would imagine that you would have to relocate to Denver PA...because that would be one hell of a commute from Upper Marlboro MD. When ACME closed their operation in Philly years ago and moved all operations to Denver...a lot of people relocated there too. The building is shared with SuperValu. @Pintlehook is knowledgeable about that place too...but he isn't an active member anymore.

I would imagine since you work for Albertsons already...both union locals will probably work something out. If you relocate to Denver...you'll most likely start off on the bottom of the seniority list at local 500. Cost of living is ridiculously cheap around that area. If you don't mind living in the boonies and sharing the roads with the Amish, it'll be a big change in scenery.

 

Yes they are still on trip rate. The only people that are hourly are the yard jockeys and the fuel tank driver. The fuel driver does nothing but fill up all the reefers and tractors. Pay progression is about the same...4 maybe 5 years. You also get a $4 an hour severance pay after 3 years of service...so that's like free money added onto to your hourly rate.

 

We'll...you are talking about Central PA lol. There's nothing really out there except maybe cows and the Amish. It's country living that's for sure. Property taxes are VERY CHEAP. You can get a 2 acre land with your own private driveway, garage and pond for around $150k + with taxes less than $1k per year if you look around. Townhouses are around $40k, property tax almost nil.

 

You will like the Amish in time.

If you know anything at all about Food, you can start along US 30 towards Lancaster and work your way through. They FEED YOU.

However there are two distinct Amish. One is rejecting of ALL technology we use today. The other is ... less rejecting but both consider the camera a way of stealing their souls in the eyes. (Ugh...) Its not so bad. Just rather peaceful. And the food...

Black is normal way of life. Grey is courting. So there is that. You think them foals and fillies court so much. But eh... its all good. Those Yankees can learn a little life lesson from that. HA... //semi-tease...

We think several generations back one of my grandparents failed rumspringa as a teen and got out of there to raise a family. And so it goes. We are working to uncover it but its a journey. A small part. And probably one of the reasons I love to be in that area.

However I do not like the expenses of being in PA generally. The blessed Commonweath in Harrisburg must have had some rocks in the water they are trying to drink. Closing the state every time there is a dab of snow. Silly. If a big rig got spun, get the shires out and hitch em. It will get the rig out soon enough.

 

Yep...many of the Amish around Lancaster/Denver use today's technology. Most of the businesses, housing are owned by Amish. If you're looking to buy a house, rent or lease around that area... it's probably owned by the Amish.

 

Someone said SuperValu moved out about 6 months ago.I had buddies work there and they left to go to wegmans in Pottsville.My one buddy lasted 3 weeks and went back to tanker.From what I was told it’s not a bad place to work.
