This would have been a chargeable accident to me. Fortunately i heard scraping when i was backing up and glanced over and caught it. i cranked down the landing gear enough to raise the trailer enough where there was little to no pressure on the fairing and eased forward. i then parked the truck on the street and moved the boxes by handtruck instead of using the dock; It turned out that i had to do it this way anyways, due to security procedures only allowing packages to be delivered to the mailroom anyways.....
Note that these pups with the fairings (really ALL of our pups. 26,27,28,29 series) are primarily for linehaul use. We WILL use these for city delivery if we run out of city trailers. Extraboard drivers like me are generally going to end up with these. On the other hand, if you have a route, then you generally have a city trailer, possibly with liftgate. And certainly no side fairings.
My thoughts are:
It is yet annoying again for a gov't worker who has likely never driven a truck to mandate equipment, that to me hasn't necessarily been proven to save fuel----there's too many variables involved.
If a company REALLY wants to save fuel (and thinks something like this might help), then they'll do it on their own. They don't need government to make it mandatory.
This is another reason why the california know-it-alls should mind their own business......

Call me ignorant but I had no idea the fairings were required by the government.
I still would rather rip the fairings off than drag the landing gear. -
I see a lot of those fairings with the bottom 6-8 inches or so with what looks to be rubber? I'm guessing that's for situations like this where it wont hurt anything being bent?

i don't agree with it, just stating what the "policy" is. i'm just the messenger..... -
A little saw takes care of that skirt and drop the trailer. It would be weeks before anyone traced that to you if ever. Whoopsie... //satire.
