TWIC Card

Just as other professions require tools of the trade, Professional truck drivers are no different. After reaching 30 days in your own truck you will be required to begin the process of obtaining a Hazardous Materials endorsement on your Class A CDL, a Passport or Passcard and a TWIC Card.

One of the bigger loads of horse crap they are starting to push. A mechanic usually gets an allowance for his tools. I haven't done anything for the TWIC yet aside from registering on my home PC, came here with the hazmat and the passport application is in process. I'm not sure how or when they are going to start enforcing this but my money says they force new hires to do it at orientation by now. The HazMat is a real joke, they don't even pay what they say is the HazMat bonus unless you chase them down with it and jump through the hoops. Call the recruiter and see if you can get it at orientation or if you need it before you go. Actually it would be better to call someone in the main office, I've heard of recruiters not being honest just to get a warm body to show up.

 

I wonder how many new hires are going to waste their time, effort, and money on these required things and not even make it 6 months.

The TWIC is 130+ , But I heard that you can get a discount If you get hazmat first. Does anyone know if that is true?

 

$105 with hazmat.

You're welcome. I forgot to add if you go with the cheaper rate your TWIC will expire at the same time as your hazmat so if you only have a year or so on your hazmat you would be ahead to pay the higher rate.
