A 10 yard dumpster is Anywhere from 320-375. So if you rent a 10 yard container and allow 1 ton. For say $350. So 350-150 is 200. So you made $200. Not sure where the $30 came from

Sure it may be ridiculous, but that’s what dumpsters are offering tonnage wise around here.
now obviously just because you rent one and are aloud 2 tons doesent mean people aren’t going to go over the 2 tons.
I’ve talked to a few people in the business and they confirmed those numbers. Some will offer 4 tons in a 30 but obvious the price goes way up.
The transfer stations say it can be mixed. And I really do appreciate all of your help, I am more than glad to answer anything you ask.
Could you tell me what answers don’t make sense to you?

    thanks

The not making sense part has to do with the differences between your area and mine. If the norm in your area is to list a max weight and back charge then great. Just be sure you know how to enforce said arrangement. I.e. contracts and proof of said weight. (I say i only put in a ton, prove that dump ticket was from my load...) you don't know your over cap till you get on the scale.
Glad your area allows mixing, we never had that luxury..

One last bit of advice, get friendly with another rolloff company. You will want someone to borrow dumpsters from or have pick up yours if your broken down. Yeah you will lose some or all of a particular boxes profit but you will be able to satisfy obligations.

I called around to about 10 different compaines in my area to get some prices and info on rentals to get an idea
Every single on gives an allowed tonnage. Over that you get charged and it’s usually rounded up to the nearest half ton.
If you think about it, kinda unfair for the people renting it since they don’t know how much everything weights, dumpster gets picked up and that 1 ton dumpster weighs 3 tons. Then they get charged for it.
I plan on having a lawyer drafting up a contact that has to be signed before/ when the dumpster is being dropped or no dumpster.
The transfer station gives weight tickets and the software I think I’m going to use let’s you upload the ticket so the customer can see it.
I’m just looking to get into it in the side and hope in a few years I can expand and it’ll be my full time job. It’s a big investment to get into. But I think I want to take the risk.

Well good on you for getting a business up and running. Based on what you have said you may be able to trump the competition by running a little more expensive but no back charges for standard c&d. With roofing and the like you will still want to be able to back charge though...

Before I jump into it I want to make sure I have a plan. Don’t want to lease the land, buy containers and then go out of business. So I’m slowly getting my plan together and then I think I’ll pull the trigger. Finding the land now to perk the truck and containers is somewhat of a challenge

Check with landfills. Up here its common for companies to store dumpsters in a corner of the property. We had dozens at each major landfill and transfer station. The truck, make a deal with a tow company. They usually have a little space to spare and may only charge 100 bucks a month if your lucky

Yeah I’ve already checked. Most want nothing to do with it due to liability reasons, which I understand. I found a lot I can rent, but it’s going to be around $500 a month. And it’s about 25 min from all 3 transfer stations. Going to look at the lot today and get a better idea of if it can work.

54CC0F31-1C36-4918-96C9-530A8C342230.jpeg So I went and looked at a couple trucks that were local to me today. Dealers were closed but I did get in touch with the sales guy, and I’m just confused. All the trucks that I looked at are supposedly outside rail hoists, but they again look like the picture I’ve previously posted and make me believe they are not outside rail hoists. Sales person wasn’t very helpful and didn’t really know either. I cannot understand what those prices of steel sticking up 90 off the rail is. Is it possible they are guides of some sort? Before I go back to the 2 dealers, which are about 3.5 hours away, I need to confirm that they are indeed outside rail hoists.

They are at least in/out if not just out. The rollers attached to the outside of the rails is where the can rides. Like I surmised earlier, either its a in/out or its a out and the vertical pieces are to assist in guiding and ensuring the can won't jump the rail.
