You might miss that summons in the mail while from home several weeks. The judge might put a bench warrant on your hind end for a no show.

Don't register to vote and you won't have to worry about it. I don't vote for that reason alone, as I don't want the hassle of jury duty.

That won’t help you in most places. They pull from driver license and other lists as well around here.

Have someone collect your mail, and if called contact the court to let them know you are out of state on work assignment.

They don’t send it registered mail, nobody signs for delivery, so there is zero proof that you actually received it.

This happened to me back in the 90s. I simply missed the summons. When I did get home I called the Clerks office and explained my situation. I was told to forget about it. This depends on where you are. In my case, there was a large enough Jury pool the judge let it slide. I don't recommend doing it more than once though.

Ideally, you have a mail service or someone check your mail for you while you're out.

Who knows? But I got one when I was in MT in 2017 and I ignored it. Nothing happened.

They cant and wont do anything to you.

No proof you received it. Now if you call then no show youre screwed.

    Two comments.
    1. I HIGHLY advise changing that "can't" to "normally don't".

    2. Keep round filing those summonses and smart off to a judge once brought before them, you will discover in short order what a judge can do! Judges all across the country have and will put people in jail for this.

People not showing up for jury duty is becoming a serious problem. I remember several stories where Judges has ordered the court security people to go out on the street and "draft" people to sit. I won't link to them, but a simple google search has story after story where Judges have locked people up.

They can start sending them registered then. The postal service loses packages so it’s not unrealistic to think that not all letters get delivered.
